My M17 has been acting up lately, it all started yesterday when I turned it on and it shook a little bit.
What happens is when I turn it on the bios screen comes on then the screen with the little blinking line for typing appears but just stays there, if I turn it off and back on its fine, I'm not sure what this could mean, any help would be great thanks.

Yes it does, just after that it just stops

no beeping?
Do you have an extra hard disk to test with?
Have you changed your boot order?
Any USB devices plugged in? -
I've unplugged all the usb devices but still no luck. Also no beeping. I've never changed the boot order.
It doesn't seem to happen if i do a restart, but if the computer has been off for awhile it does, not sure why. -

Have a nice day! -
it happen you turn it on and it appears to be running but nothing shows on the lcd and nothing boots just kinda hangs
i have had that happen couple of times
usually after improper shut down -
I never improper shut down though :/. And its really hard to duplicate because even if I shut it down wait 10 minutes then turn it back on the computer boots normal, but when I wake up after leaving it shut off all night it takes a restart to get it not to hang.
It all started however when I booted up my computer and it make a loud clunk and shook, but havent had it do that since. Maybe its the HDD? right now atm I only have two screws in both the HDD's because I didn't have enough for 4 in each (they sent me more which haven't gotten here yet) and I have put it in a wheeled backpack. But the pack is cushioned for nicely. I don't know, soooo lost lol. -
Try a system repair from your Windows System Restore CD. I had a similar problem with Windows getting stuck at start up and it turned out to be a corrupted boot file. I did a system repair and that fixed it.
-
hmm interesting I'll try that, however I don't know which cd is system repair! ahh *puts pipe and hat on*
-
you definitely have to go down the Alienware support router because that shake or judder you experienced is bad and probably a hardware failure!! I hope its not but it doesnt sound too clever...follow the Alienware support guys advice and give em a call.
good luck with it. -
yech, oh well finals are almost over, so i'll be able to part with the lappy for a while.
-
trust me its fine ... you dont need to send it back in
-
Weird the laptop isn't doin it anymore. Funny... :/
-
nope it is doing it again, it happens when I turn on the computer first then i turn on the external monitor it is plugged into.

Lol the other day my cd drive wasnt reading a dvd...and I found out that if I put a game in it would read it. So I put the game in and wait for it to read it, and then eject and put the dvd in real quick. it worked.
But then it stopped working and I just got really pissed and hit the spot by my dvd drive pretty hard(with my fist)....and ha it started working, havent had any problems since and I have no idea what it was, but it just made me laugh because it reminded me of playing on my nintendo way back in the day.
So try to hit it a few times. Ok Im joking, Id recommend calling AW. -
Did you manage to fix this problem poliuy??
