I've got a bank check heading to my house today to purchase the M17 I ordered. I've ordered an M17 with two ssd's each 256 GB totaling 512 GB. I'm wondering who the maker is of these drives.

If it is the Samsung SSD, there are far better ones out there.

well of course there are. if they'd be using the Intel X-series, they'd be specifically promoting with that...

I upgraded mine M17 yesterday with Intel SSD and I must say it is pretty fast, Vista x64 takes about 22-25 sec to boot ( you can start launching applications) and about 30 sec to shutdown.

Wouldn't upgrading cancel out any guaranty from Alienware? I wish they would offer all the top sellers parts for options. Have an option from four or five different graphic cards and ten different hard drives and on and on. That way someone could get the very best of the best and if they want or need to go cheaper, they could choose cheaper parts. Everyone could benefit and be happy. It's almost as bad as dealing with car sales. I know as soon as I get my M17 there will be an option available that wasn't there when I ordered. An Intel SSD for one example. I'll bet that comes soon.

the shutdown was faster before i started tweaking the registry, the reason it takes longer is because i force the os to delete the page file before rebooting, hence it takes a while. let me see what else i can fiddle with :)

The make and model of the 256GB Alienware SSD is Samsung PB22-J 256GB SSD, If you read some reviews on it it actually is not that poor of a performer and beat the intel drives on many categories.

If you switch to an SSD your start-up and shut-down times will be about half of what they are now.

I think she is wondering why the Sujaym is having the same start/boot times as her, although he has an ssd.
