Today was not a good day. M17 wouldn't boot at first after cycling over and over it finally booted but when it did the USB Root was not working at all. I thought it might have been my C drive leading up to this so as a precaution I Mirrored the drive and put in a new one. Nope, not the problem. It was worth the upgrade anyway 120 to 500GB. Then when I still wouldn't I then went with the only thing I knew left to do. Alienware Respawn.

After running it, the system booted right up and has all evening, however the finger reader is no longer showing up. I did miss something? Just looking for things I can look at to see if I just missed turning something on.
Other then that things seem to be ok, As a precaution I was wondering where the battery is for the Motherboard. I thinking that maybe the battery might be going down which could be leading me to all these issues.

At this point I am looking for advice on what to check. Inclined to check things myself now that M17s are end of life and my warrenty just expired in December.

Should have worked with the Respawn, but if not, ensure you install the fingerprint reader and the hotfix or the newest OEM reader driver.

    Look here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=426562

After that, you still have to set it up for the fingerprint to show up in the login screen.

There is nothing in the bios to enable for it that I saw. I did try the driver and hotfix thru the AW site that is linked to my invoice number. It failed to bring it back as well. The laptop is still working without it. I am typing this on it. I checked the Device manager and nothing is showing with a ! in it. Once the driver is installed how does it show up as in the device manager? I need to know if even Vista is even detecting it.

Can you start the program (vitakey?) from the start menu?

Then you can test if it works or not.

I just tried the autentec and "You da man! Its working. I kept trying with vita key and it just didn't want to work. And I like as well, much easier to install and even gives you a nice walk thru practice. Much friendlier to install. And since its working going to stay with it :) Thanks Again!
