Im looking into buying this computer, and i want to see if maybe there is some advice as to what the problem maybe.
can this just be a driver issue? or is this a hardware problem?

Seems like a hdd-motherboard issue to me. Especially if it happens in safe mode as well (not sure if you can ask him to test that).

You wont be able to know for sure if the seller is not in the mood to do some troubleshooting for you.

Its not a common problem and unless your buying a "Fixxer upper" i would not waste the money..
A motherboard if it were that would run you probably $400-600 if you can even find one and then that might not even be the problem... so spending money to get it working could spiral out of control at which point you would have been better off buying a used and working machine... -

LOL run away mate. He might even know the exact reason why it freezes on it (he spilled gatorade?) and he just wants to offload it. Could be one problem (MB), a combination of problems (MB, Video card,) I wouldn't even look at that.

Someone should have told him pouring Gatorade into the machine does not count as watercooling
