So for two days now, I've come home and had my USB mouse not working correctly on my M17. It's a Razer DeathAdder gaming mouse.

The device keeps coming up as an unknown device and when I check device manager, low and behold all 3 USB ports are coming up as unknown devices. So I figure, let me test this with a USB memory stick just to see if it's USB or the mouse, well the same thing happens on the USB memory stick.

I'm able to resolve the problem by booting Vista into safe mode, removing all 3 of the unknown USB devices out of device manager, then rebooting into Vista normally. Any USB device I plug in works fine then.

Strangely enough after I reboot the machine, they all continue to work fine. It's almost like when the laptop's had time to sit for any length of time that it causes the problem.

This is the first time I've had this pop up, and it's not hard to fix, just an annoyance. Anyone got any suggestions before I just reimage the machine?

Vista has loads of problems with sleep/hibernate, i suspect this is one of them. on a side note, does the Razer driver still work if the mouse has problems like this?

Could be related to Vista, have you tested these devices in other USB ports or on another machine?

I'm thinking it's Vista related as well.

I've plugged the same mouse into the other M17 and it recognizes it and runs fine. (Yes I've got an M17 listed in my sig, and the fiance's got my first M17 that I ordered a while back.)

The Razer driver actually doesn't recognize the device either whenever it's plugged in. When I manually try to assign the drivers to the "unknown device" Vista will just sit and spin and never actually assign the drivers.

I'm tempted to just do a clean install of Vista and load the drivers accordingly, but hey if it's just a mouse issue that's easily fixed by repeating the steps I've done, then I'll deal with it.
