I don't have the respawn dvd on me so what other things could I do to solve this problem.

I've tried to do a system restore but it never worked.

EDIT: Also, aliensense is not working for me. On the log in screen, it says it loading but that as far as it goes.

System restore never works for me.

There are several major causes for slowdowns. Bogged registry, excessive amounts of "services". Use the resource monitor to identify if it is excessive hard drive activity or CPU usage that is the culprit. Also check your free mem. Significant hard drive activity could indicate high usage of virtual memory.

You should still have the respawn partition on part of your hard drive, right? Or did you erase it to make room? If you did, you are going to have to manually restore, using the OS disc and resource disk.

Hmmm...I did a registry cleanup through bitdefender. Would that have screwed anything up?

It sounds like you are in stealth mode.

    It shouldn't....

Joebarchuck could be correct too. Check your bios. Make sure you have at least hybrid SLI enable, that will take you out of stealth....

    Are you running Windows 7?

Mine slowed to a crawl on Friday. Went into processes, clicked show all processes from all users, and one of the alienware apps was taking up 95% of my RAM.

bitdefender is alittle slow. so that can also cause the issue. uninstall it and see how your system runs.

I don't think bitdefender can drop the speed so much its noticeable - not with those system specs. I use bitdefender on my desktop which is slower than my M17x and has half the RAM (DDR2 no less) and it doesn't cause any noticeable lag. Just in boot times.

I had this issue the day after I received mine. I believe you are unintentionally in stealth mode. There is a simple fix which resets the system:

    1. Turn off your computer

    2. Unplug power adapter, and remove from laptop.

    3. Remove battery (ONLY AFTER IT'S TURNED OFF)

    4. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds

    5. Replace battery, turn the computer on, and check device manager to see if it's recognizing your video cards.

That fixed it for me. Hope it works for you.

Thanks...I did not know that I was able to use the alienware respawn partition without the disc. I've got the disc back home, forgot to bring it with me.

My system works fine now after I restored it back to the original factory settings. Re-installed all my drivers and it work great now. But when I went to OC my CPU in Bios, I noticed that hybrid SLI was disabled. That may have been the problem before and I just over looked it.

    Thanks guys!
