Im sorry if this has been covered before but I thought that the M17X in the UK comes with ATI GDDR5 and not GDDR3? It says GDDR3 on the UK Dell configurator page...

Everywhere else that it is available says GDDR5, for now I would just consider that a typo or careless oversight...

In the US, ordering a 4870 costs $300 more than the single GTX260M.

In the UK, ordering a 4870 costs like £20 more or something. One time I checked and it was £0.

So its hard to know for sure what is going on.

Yeah its very strange, on the UK site the 4870 is the same price as the 260M but when the 4870 is in crossfire configuration, it costs £45 more than the 260M in SLI...

Im assuming this GDDR3 vs GDDR5 is a huge deal because it affects the performance quite considerably, I wish someone can confirm which one is included...

Nobody can confirm it until they receive the machine unfrotunately. Even all the people who love to bandy the word 'confirmed' around likes its going out of fashion :D

This is doubly true with Alienware. You won't know for sure what you're getting until people take shipment (and all the M17Xs with 4870 are in production limbo currently).

And even then, you've got the weird US/UK price discrepancies, It just doesnt make sense to have such a big disparity. It would make you wonder if UK guys will get a different card. The whole situation is just weird.

Its most likely a typo, this was discussed before when Dell Europe was listing them as GDDR5 4850's. A few days later the site was corrected to read GDDR5 4870s.

I would say it is possible, but I personally cannot say for certain. But, everywhere else, it is listed as GDDR5
