Hey Everyone,
I'm looking for advice from anyone who has managed to get Fallout 3 stable. Although I don't get any blue screens, I get constant "Fallout 3 has stopped responding" about every 30 minutes or so. Once I even got a complete system lock. I've tried every known fix that I can think of, and so far, nothing has fixed it.
Thanks,
Gabe

Okay a few factors we need to establish first...
1. D2D version or Hard Copy
2. GPU OC, or CPU OC?
3. Scanned for viruses and are all clear?
4. where are you playing @ a desk, or on a soft surface?
Just tell me all the factors in your situation -
1. D2D (Steam) $25 This weekend!
2. No Overclocking
3. No Viruses and it's a clean Restore
4. Desk playing only (unless I want to get burned) lol

Have you tried reinstalling it... sometimes the D2D copies can be broken when downloading... too many factors with online D2D that's why I would really perfer to have a Hard Copy, not to mention what if where I am doesn't ahve internet? or I want to lend the game to a friend you know
-
I have used steam to purchase a ton of games and none of them have had any problems.
In fact, I like steam better although I have a pretty fast internet connection -
Definitely true. I'm not a big fand of D2D either. But how can you resist Fallout 3 for $25??? That's a steal if it works out. I'll try a reinstall just to see if anything happens. I guess it's really not uncommon for Fallout 3 to crash a lot.....there's just tons of articles and fixes.

Amen. I think FO3 is still worth $50. You got a killer deal. Now just get it working.
-
Only time i ever had fallout 3 crashing was from Overclocking but on the rare occasion it would just lock up and i would have to Alt tab and restart the game. The game is Awesome but is still to this day a tad on the buggy side.
-
gabez, i has the EXACT same problem happen. All you have to do is go tot the site, and download the updates. worked perfectly for me. here is the link.
http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads/updates.html
make sure its installed/downloaded correctly. restart comp and should be perfect. -
Wait gabe did you not run all the patches already ? i thought the Steam versions came prepatched ?> .
-
Ah..well i installed via the Cd....Your call though.
-
Yea i bought mine from the store but i know the Download versions are handled differently or atleast most of the time they are including the patches . Steam should have Auto patched his up like it does the rest of there games.
-
It did auto patch, so there's still an issue running it on the M17X. Hopefully I'll stumble uppon a fix soon.... or maybe someone else will.

Gabe it could be Video drivers or even the audio ones as i know when i was troubleshooting the lockups people reported audio drivers as being the culprit but since Clauss does not seem to have any issues im not sure. What drivers are you running your video cards on ? i know dell has a separate driver for the 260s and 280s but id bet both can be installed for either card.
If your still having problems in a couple weeks hopefully my machine should be here before or after then lol ill give ya all the help i can as i want this game running smooth for me as well. -
I have a 9800gx2 and fallout 3 crashes. If i disable multi gpu it is fine... do you have dual 280s or 260s...if so try disabling one. it is a driver issue and fallout 3 hates sli

Hybrid
Just like i told you .....JUST DO IT
SLI is what gives multi GPU solutions a bad name -
Really? I guess i have been lucky. Gaming every day and not one issue yet. Whether it may be fps or anything at all. (besides the damn lights)
-
Aslo, in case anyone doesn't know already, in order to use the console in FO3 (~ key), you've got to disable the eHome infered keyboard in device manager. At least I had to on my M17.
-
No problems with FO3 but I've had the issue described by Gabe with Crysis. Usually because of OC'ing. When playing FO3 w/ OC'd GPU and CPU I have no problems but I'm not using the default video drivers either.
-
crashes with Fallout 3 are inevitable. I have it installed on a few computers and while not crashing every 30 min it will crash at least once every 8 hours or so.
-
I see. I'm still using the stock video driver, as it's the best fully functional driver out of the two. I could try a modded driver or two, but then I'd loose functionality, and it's not worth altering the driver just for one game.

This isn't all my guitars just a few. I have bought more this year.
You could buy alot of M17x's for the price of all of these LOL.

Holy crap that's awesome... When I purchase a house I am going to have a room dedicated to my Guitars, Laptops, and other Tech... In order from oldest to newest that I am not using anymore almost like a little memorobilia lounge, but with actually usuable and cool stuff lol
-
It's hard to believe but all of them get played frequently. The only hard part is deciding which one to play
I got this one a few weeks ago. It's pretty cool.
last pic I promise mods
-
I pleased to announce that the issue was resolved with the current patch (1.6). Unfortunately, the game doesn't play as smoothly with the patch installed, but at least it's playable. I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too lol.
Thanks,
Gabe -
I had to deal with the same persistent crashes. In fact, I probably spent at least 3 hours rebooting and restarting the game during my entire playthrough, and I ain't exaggerating. It's still worth the trouble though because it's an unforgettable ride (just ignore the ending).
