Hello all....I have been watching alienware for almost a year now.....ever since they announced M15X/M17X. But I still can't make a decision.....I love the M15x but there are just too many issues with it......I'm absolutely facinated by the M17X, everything perfect, except....well...maybe the battery life...so that's why i'm writing this post.....Could anyone who has already got an M17X tell me how long does the battery actually last? And one more thing, can you still get the SmartBay battery? Cuz it's not on the custimization page....so, yeah, WITH the SmartBay battery, screen dimmed to about half or even less, stealth mode, no intense gaming stuff just surfing the web or typing in MSword, however ON THE 9800MGT, how long would the battery last? what if i switch to BFX?

Thank you so much for ur time......have fun in the forum

I would answer it in this way, the m17x is not a Mobile PC :)
Yes it is movable from point A to B but thats where the mobility ends. You might not want to carry 11lbs laptop with you where ever you go, and if you are at home or some other place - you should be able to find a power source.

regarding m15x - most of the issues have been fixed and they are putting great efforts on m15x line. with a smart bay I can squeez upto 6 hours from this compact monster (considering I am on stealth mode, low display, and integrated graphics) and turn it into beast when I am on power source

My recommendations to you would be to have m15x if you care about battery and mobility. Go for m17x if you want to take benefit from the number of years m17x is into existence and become the ultimate gaming machine.

PS.: yeah they still sell the smartbay, you need to ask them over call for that I guess.

I think when AW designed the m17x, the only mobility they wanted it to do was for you to carry it to one lan party to the next or let it sit in the overhead bin as you fly from west coast to east coast.

Chaz says that the m17x battery last only 66 mins. That's enough to save your work and shut down. The m15x battery may last longer but you probably won't be doing any hardcore gaming with it or watching many movies with it. You could if you fly within the states or within Europe but once you try to go over the big pond, you might as well let it sit in the backpack and enjoy your PSP.

Thanks a lot guys that was a lot of help......

man i love the M17X......the size and weight are actually a plus for me but battery life is needed.......

but the M15X.....i don't know....i might just get the new Macbook Pro cuz it's very sexy..... and better performance (9600M is good enough i do all the intensive stuff on my desktop anyway).........or even the macbook....

Doesn`t the m17x have the same BinaryFX and Stealth options as the m15x?

nope, it's doesn't have the power-saving intel chip, only stealth mode to reduce clock speeds.
