they only list the m17x's as having rgb led screens and DO say 5-14 working days from order to delivery, this is the standard screen so all m17x's are on back-order atm
just got off the phone to a sales rep, there is a big e-mail going around that all m17x's will be delayed until the 2nd week of MARCH.... yes MARCH
the screens have not arrived in aus but they still sell the laptop to everyone at the same price with no offers or warnings on the time :|
anybody who ordered a laptop after the 3rd of feb will recieve this laptop sometime LATE MARCH if not APRIL!!!
lucky i phoned to ask how my order is going, i asked for some compensation for a laptop that will take 6 weeks to make, and will get a phone call back later this week (yeah right)....
i ordered on the 3rd of feb, wont be here till atleast 15th MARCH
should i cancel my order?
should i wait?
should i ask for an free upgrade for time wasting?
-
You rage at them. Asking why there was no warning given then you ask for a free upgrade. -
doesnt matter when u ordered it, the screens wont come till start of march,
-
-
When will they start updating EDD's? I can't wait muh longer for this, sold my other computers to pay for this one.
-
best way to find out is to ring them, as the e-mail was only passed around today :\
and yes ask for a big upgrade for the trouble! -
hmm thats strange
just yesterday i asked my rep if any delays on the RGB, as i had heard rumors it was OOSin europe, he said nope...ETA is 14 days from date of order
I guess this lets me wait abit to see if they fix the flickering problem -
I dont think there is much point in buying the M17x without the RGB screen. Also, I remember when I was replacing my lcd screen in my M15x in mid-decemeber. The guy over the phone told me that they are out of stock of screens and a new bunch will arrive in January. But two days later they called and said that they had the screens in stock.
I would just wait for now, and call them in a weeks time to get more info -
-
im quite pissed off also, i cancelled my g73 for this cause it would of come quicker, but dell have done it again! -
FWIW - when I ordered, I also asked if there were any delays - the rep said no.
Ordered on 3/2/10 -
I was told 19th feb new stock arrives.
-
-
What numbers are you guys calling to get a status?
Or are you calling your Reps directly? -
im calling my rep directly, she is handling my new purchase since my r1 had so many troubles etc etc, im thinking for a refund.... dell now owes me 6.1k for both laptops :<
-
-
lol, im trying but atm id rather all my money back and an g73 or clevo
ive kinda had it with dell -
-
are we talking only Australia machines or us too ?
-
-
i dont think haggling will do much in this case tbh

What you say is correct, although it is "Dell" not the reps per se. When I say don't trust them this is because some are just telling you whatever to get the sale (they ARE on commission) or more than likely they just have no clue what is going on because the internal system at Dell is fixed on a cost-part basis. The simple issue of having orders with a part they can't get for a DVD drive and not simply updating the orders with a new part with a notification seems... alien to us, no pun intended, but this is how little Michael Dell made his fortune (God bless him), and the system remains unchanged. Dell locks in a cost for lots that a system is to be built around at a margin. Now, this is based on what an honest, informed rep (apparently) explained, and it makes a lot of sense from a business perspective. The only problem is that it makes for unsatisfied customers who don't get their orders filled in a timely basis... at least within a month by most accounts, if you can't meet that then I believe customers are due SOME kind of compensation beyond a trivial NBD delivery... which I suspect is frequently taking advantage of weekend shipping going on in the background, so it's not really that big a concession to the customer. Simply put Dell should not NOT allow parts to be put into orders for items they don't have confirmation of having in the very near future, pure and simple, this amounts to what is called "naked short selling" see this Wikpedia link, it is essentially what Dell is doing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naked_short_selling
My "escalation rep" is going to have to pony SOMETHING up more substantial than NBD delivery if this rolls into March... -
i do believe they do not do NBD delivery in aus, were slackers
and these laptops are made in malaysia not china -
-
I have emailed that I am dissapointed with teh delays for a top of line laptop and if there is any we are sorry from dell things they might do
will see how that goes....... 19-2 they are suppost to get screens and then they can start to process again.
-
No stock of RGB LED screens boys have to wait 1-2 weeks
-
-
this is my second alienware that im ordering due to my failed r1, and now ive learnt that it is chinese new year soon, so the factory that makes these screens will be having a holiday also... starting 14th of feb till the 19th....
so i have no idea how u guys think they will be getting the screens on the 19th
im trying to ring them as we speak and ive bin put on hold for over 25 mins now just asking for a return on my money, i wonder howlong it will be before i get my 3k back lol.... -
-
unless they didn't get ur money order until after the 3rd which is when they actually issued the build order.
i had no idea about this issue in delay until i was linked here, anyways fingers crossed to get my soon -
-
Just found out my order will be delayed by two weeks, but others who ordered arround the same time will not be delayed - luck of the draw.
At the time I ordered my rep stated there were no delays, and it wasnt until I emailed him yesterday that he indicated there was a delay.
So what are my options here?
Can I cancel the order and not be charged a fee?
Can I ask for a upgrade?
cpu from 720 to 920 is $1500+aud - no way dell would do this!
cpu from 720 to 820 is $500+aud - I cant see dell doing this either!
And to be honest I dont really want those cpus anyway, due to the issues with flickering.
Looks like I will be canceling. -
-
yep rep just messaged me too...
not to worried, maybe the 5XXX ati cards will be out by then -
-
acutally try asking because the price is what dell sells to us lol, they must make a killer profit for them to cover all thier costs, so in reailty those cpu might only cost dell 200ish to buy in the first place? then they sell to us 3 times the price D= -
-
How you were you guys lied to by Dell if stock ran out.
Each country has its own stock levels so when it runs out have to wait for more to be manufactured. When the i7 M17x was released in Australia and NZ a lot of orders were placed as people were waiting for i7 and the ATI cards.
For such a laptop its worth the wait if the screen is the same RGB screen as my XPS 16. -
Well I tried with my rep (aust) and have been given 60 aud to play with as a good will gesture.... hmm
-
i love how you say its worth the wait because anyone knows PC got a life cycle roughly about 6 month because new hardware will be out thats more powerful and when you spent 4000 on a laptop only to wait for 2 month there really isnt much of a point? thats 40% of your life cycle gone.
u wouldn't understand unless u buy a Alienware. -
-
Same I asked as well. However I believe that there was a problem with the quality not quantity of the RGB LED's. I imagine that dell is hitting up samsung for a penny now.
-
-
not saying its your fault, but we can't blame the sales rep unless YOU order after feb 3 and they still tell you there is stock left.
I think the best thing you can do is ask for some upgrade or cancel your order, get a M11x, and wait for 5870 and order again.
By that time, i will be so jealous of ur GPU -
-
ive just canceled my order and will be getting my money back as early as friday morning, i got no time to be screwed around, gl to all of those that are sticking with dell, but i will no longer be giving money to dell in future transactions
-
thats a mean looking laptop
M17X dell/AW australasia back-order on RGB LED SCREENS
