So i have been waiting for an m15x to be shipped to me so like most people I check the order status like 20 times a day. Anyways I noticed that the M17X price went from roughly $1800 to $3849. Maybe im mistaken but I'm pretty sure it hasn't always been that much.

woah... I see what you're talking about! It seems like all of the lower config options are gone and the base config is really high!

Yeah, I noticed that, too. That model has SLI 9800M GT and practically everything is upgraded so it's not just a $2k price increase. That price is still too high when you can get similar specs for around $3300 before. I'm going to keep my old theory, Alienware is waiting to clear out the current models and then they're going to do a Montevina refresh for the m17x and then release a new m15x for Breed by December. I'd guess that they're running out of the 8600M GT and 8700M GT stock and they're trying to save the remaining stock for the m15x. I'm probably wrong, but a new m15x would be awesome, especially since I'm going to get some a laptop (I'm leaning towards a MacBook Pro now) in November or December ;).

I have a question - I have a m17x with a 2.5 GHz Intel, Dual 8800M GTX's, and a 1200p screen. If I wanted to upgrade my videocard to a SLI 9800 GT could I? I've been hearing about a new m17x model? What is all this about? Is it a new machine with the same name or are all m17xs the same (despite the inside)?

I'm pretty sure the only change so far is the dual 9800's but even that's not a necessary upgrade because the 8800M GTX = 9800M GT.

He can, but they'll probably charge you for the upgrade, and if it's the same as the 8800M GTX, for the most part, is it worth it? I would say no but if you feel compelled to, don't let me stop you.

could anyone tell me how long the 9800GT cards have been available from alienware.
im not sure if alienware has been abducted for the last month but the 9800GT cards are being discontinued by nvidia and replaced with the slightly lower spec 9800GTS cards.
