I`m about to buy my first M17X, i`m in the UK. The cost for the spec ive chosen comes to £2820 which is approx $4,359.

How much discount should i aim for over the phone, what realistically could i get £2820 reduced too ?

I would say about 500-600 dollars less than that price. Do not make my mistake and not getting all the discounts on the system, it is the one thing i regret. I had about that price, and i saw people getting for far less. The EPP itself would get you 500-600 dollars, try making the rep drop it even more and combine that with DPA and NBD shipping and you are golden.

You should be able to knock £300-£400 off that. Point out that you've seen several other gaming laptops (perhaps name a few examples) that are very tempting, and cheaper than the M17x, and that should get them to drop the price a bit. Or, say that you're on a budget and go from there to try and drop the price...

I tried calling them up for this spec:

COLOUR CHOICE Alienware M17x MLK Gaming Laptop - Nebula Red edit
    PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 720QM (1.60Ghz, 6MB cache) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English edit
SERVICES AND SUPPORT 1 year of coverage included with your PC edit
SECURITY SOFTWARE No Security/Anti-Virus Protection - English edit
LCD 17in Wide UXGA (1920x1200) - Beyond HD (1200p) RGBLED edit
    MEMORY 4096MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048] edit
HARD DRIVE 160GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive edit
GRAPHICS CARD Single 1GB ATI® Mobility Radeon™ HD 5870 edit
OPTICAL DRIVE 8X DVD+/- RW Optical Drive (DVD & CD read and write) edit
PRIMARY BATTERY 9-cell 85Whr Lithium Ion battery

    Total: £1,728.99

They wouldn't budge any more than 6% (EPP). I told them I could get a 10% cash back through quidco and they still wouldn't move.

The EPP is 10%, how do you get $500-$600 off? Are you looking at $5k-$6k configuration? :)
