I notice that the output to the screen fades down a bit when viewing a darker web page. Is this a feature or something? can I disable it? It appears to be a software transition, not a bug or problem.
Seems like a stupid idea tp make a dark page darker.
-
-
yes thats what we all thought but no no one has found a way to disable it because it appears to be built into the panel
-
its not auto dimming its a auto contrast feature. hence it will darken depending on what type of picture is on the screen. as of now it can not be turned off its built into the screen not the system
-
One thing that I did to help with this is by using a brighter background. I dont use dark backgrounds now and it is less noticeable. When I used black/dark backgrounds, it was really annoying.
I just got some HD nature landscape pictures and set them to cycle every so often and I dont notice the contrasting as much. -
Yeah i did the same thing to try and mask the feature and i never had a problem when viewing web pages because frankly most of them have a white background . In game though it was a different story all together .
-
I never notivce it in game ...
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
In game it doesn't change, it's only during movies/videos...
-
Lol it changes in game your just not noticing it is all . Again it depends on the game or the severity of the Dimming/contrasting.
My new panel in the M17 is far brighter in all games then the M17x and my panel is rated at around 300nits in the M17 . So how could it be brighter in the same exact games if its not dimming since the M17x panel is brighter and dual bulb.
The only time infact the M17x panel is brighter then my other screen is when i do a pure white back ground on the M17x.
I have very sensitvie eyes so i pick up on things instantly as where others may not . -
So, it very well could just be that your TLA2 is brighter even with a single lamp. -
It is brighter overall except when you turn the screen pure white then its a little brighter then my TL A2. I dont buy that 250nit thing under all conditions . Sure maybe on a darker background but not at its peak thats for sure. It is probably is close to 400nits when its all white as its blindingly bright.
Axman confirmed this as well that its dimming in games since he plays Arma2 and has a hardtime making out things in the distance and that should not be period . -
Ahh... I see.
Well, I still might try squeezing a TLA2 in my M17x -
You should. What would be ideal is to get a Cheap WXGA version from someone for say $100.00 and hack away at that one and then sell your WUXGA screen intact later if it works out with the swap.
I know witcher has one for sale but he wants $200.00essentially what he paid for his WUXGA (smart move)
.
-
I was thinking that.
Just have to wait until some WXGA's get put on ebay -
Yeah my biggest fear would be ripping apart the WUXGA panel and having something go wrong and leaving you with a non working machine. Better to have your behind covered before jumping in headfirst.
-
Yep.
I just let witcher know that if he doesn't sell the panel on ebay to let me know... -
Oh well. My work wont trigger it often.... nor will i care when it does. Just odd, dont you think?
-
Its designed around what newer TVs do and thats give you the illusion of having deeper blacks then what the panel is really capable of . It all started IMHO when people loved the rich blacks in Plasma TVs that LCDs could not reproduce so the manufactures tried to find a way to give it that effect which in turn stinks .
-
Also to artificially inflate contrast ratio numbers.
Seriously, whoever goes by the mfrs cr ratings when buying an HDTV needs their head examined. -
-
.........
but i thought they meant something -
Well, CR numbers are supposed to mean something, but every manufacturer test their panels differently and you have to take them with a grain of salt because they will not tell you how they tested.
Judge with your eyes and professional reviews. Unless you have colorimeters and testing equipment, of course -
i am not seeing any auto-dimming. i have a black background and can see the cfl bleed clearly at the bottom. i put up white window to cover the entire screen the bleed is still noticeable and as bright as when i have a black background.
maybe auto contrast, but definitely no auto dimming on mine. -
It's there and you'll see it eventually
-
i'd love it if i could just manually adjust it.
it's strange that they let you OC your processor (something almost no other notebook allows) but lock you out of adjusting the brightness of your monitor
-
Hopefully the M17x-2 wont have this issue if they use LED screens like the M15x has which does not auto contrast/Dim...
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Windows 7 is almost @ the door. Maybe then they will add some new options again but too late for me. and i dont like selling my stuff just to buy the same thing again. feels like i am betraying it lol
-
I'm a little afraid that if I don't buy before an M17x refresh (if there will ever be one), the screen will become 16:9. If they increase the quality of the screen though, then it should be fine.
-
well i've fixed my fn brightness issue, just turned hybrid on in the bios. then it work. i'm not sure if it'll work after i turn hybrid back off.
i have noticed that dimming now. i opened up 2 web pages in 2 tabs, one dark and 1 light. i covered everything but the tabs with a magazine so that the light would affect my eyes. as i switched tabs i saw the tabs get lighter and darker.
from what i've read it's a trick lcd manufucturers use to increase the contrast ratio. plain ole marketing bs that sounds good on paper but turns to crap in the real world (at least for me). -
-
So then what does disabling Auto-Dimming in Fusion do?
