Guy's I have both systems loaded with Extreme Q9300's.
The M17 has 4 gig of memory and the M17X "all Powerfull" has 8 gig.
I overclocked the M17X to 2.93 in the bios.
The M17 is running at 1680 by 1050 resolution and the M17X at 1920 x 1200, not sure if that would make a difference in the bench mark as I used the same exact default settings for both in 3DMark 06.
I ran 3DMark 06 on both sytems at the same time.
The stock M17 with dual Ati 3870's scored 13582
The M17X, which makes the M17 look like a old vintage piece of junk, is really a beatuiful looking laptop scored 15178 with dual 280 M's.
Well there it is, I will play around with the M17X a bit more, but the performance gain seems low., although the quality of the screen resolution looks more impressive to me on the M17X, but that could be my imagination![]()
Im sure most of you guys are more concerned about perforamce rather than looks, but the M17X wins in both categories, I would have thought that the bench mark would have be much higher for the M17X.
I believe I ran a fair and honest test.

Thanks for the side by side comparison. I'm thinking of starting a comparison thread myself, but I'll actually maintain it and have all of the pertinent info on the first post for easy viewing.
Problem here is that you've got an overclocked Quad in the M17x, and not the M17. That extra 400Mhz will make a good difference. -
if you properly overclock that Quad in the M17 and the GPU's you can break 17k on it
the M17 will beat the M17x in 3dmark06 easy -
With the overclock I thought the M17X score would have been much higher. -
. -
ATI loves 3dmark06
Nvidia loves games
That is the equation of GPU's
-
Kcissem scored 16690 with his OC'd quad in the M17x. It may be difficult doing that with the M17.
-
E-wrecked has the world record for awhile 16.8 -
Wait 'til the 280M's get an E-wrecked style driver.
-
-
that would make me happy.
-
and if you fry the MOBO ... how would they know ( i don't support fraud) -
dang.. I havent been on in a long while and still have a driver following?
speaking of which..any new ATIs out? Also someone needs to PM me and catch me up on the 280m's.. they ever come out in Crossfire? (I've been so out of the loop). Anyhow, sup Moo? Miss ya man. Don't be suprised if ya don't see me around for a while.. life has been busy. I'll try to make time in the near future to spend here.
-
BTW do you plan on selling either of your systems or keeping both? -

interesting
i got 15,828 on my whitebook [email protected] and 3870 crossfire. so overclocking the cpu will get high results. (i didn't push my gpu however.) -

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
dam that's alot. you still in miami?
i've been ok. just sold my whitebook and got an np9262. but i still got some benchmarks saved from it so i'm comparing it to the new m17x.
btw i got 61fps average on fc2 everything maxed no aa -

hmm.. nice scores Mandrake. I just built one to see the specs and it looks quite nice. Nice thing about NVIDIA, there's a ton of people who customize em. Dox drivers are typically quite nice. I suggest looking for Xfastest drivers - they're japanese so you may have a few issues finding em....but they were always my favorite. This is all exciting news tho.. Good to see that AW is coming along strong.
Side note: I'll pass some drivers your way once I pick up a new system - til then see what ya can find.
Edit: try Xfastest 185.20 - I'd post a link but didnt take the time to search for it. -
I may update the bios in my M17., and overclock it.
Is it worth it?
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks -
That's awesome. Word on the street is the ATI cards are coming soon for the M17x. Should be very interesting.
I'll look around for the Xfastest drivers. -

Not sure which BIOS revision I had listed.. but this should have all you need. And is it worth it? The results speak for themselves.. My sig has the 3dmark link for the notebook with a qx9300.. -
i broke 16600 with my m17 clocked
17x not beaten the m17 regularly yet -
-
yeah, I dont really see too much of a difference. I was going to send my m17 back to get a refund for the new m17x, but decided not to.
Would have been some restock fee, plus the m17 runs great as it is. Although I did have a few problems at the beginning.
Which was caused by no knowledge of ATi since ive never owned a notebook with ati gpu.
but anyways, keep up the work. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
when did you get it. (m17)
-
-
The M17X being newer may take the brains out ther a little longer to come up with all the good overclocking stuff, like that did with the M17 thus far also.
So I am now ready to blow up the M17. -
-
-
Certainly isn't in performance, by the time the brain boxes amung us have got the driver issues sorted etc they will have a machine either with ddr5 4970's or something not yet announced ^^
17x is just abit dissapointing compared to the m17 -
Eh, M17x has about 5k GPU points on the M17. It's a pretty decent performance bump. What's unimpressive is comparing it to the old NP9262.
-
last time I checked they had not broken 12k? Say 11.5 average
I scored a shave under 8 on my m17
and from then screenies I have seen there is no major real world gaming performance
190 frames over 150 or something in dcm4 oh wow hang on a second my eyes can't tell the difference
in games that matter like crysis the m17x still suffers -
It's funny you mentioned Crysis, since that's where the M17 performs its absolute worst. Hell, my single 280M does better than the M17 in Crysis.
And 4k points in Vantage. Whatever. -
Yeah, that's a nvidia optimized game like advertised.
-
Not even that, 4850/4870 does very well in Crysis, but 3870 Crossfire is just plain broken. If you were looking forward to playing it on a M17, you were destined for disappointment.
-
Just first name that popped into my head
I'm just begging for someone to come up with a nice valid reason why the 17x is worth the change for those of us in the eu or uk?
Please someone?
Because at the moment there are driver is driver issues and issues with the screen I'm not saying the 17 doesn't have issues we all know it does
for £1700 u can get my m17 excluding the quad for the equivelent 17x u really need £3000
I just for the love of god can't see where the difference is for that kind of money
I could have a wicked 2 weeks in Spain on the beach with my 17 for the difference
please someone prove me wrong that it is worth almost double the price? -
1920x1200 most stuff at gamer, perfectly playable -
Let's see whatcha got. Then I'll laugh when Mandrake drops the bomb.
-
I'm on my iPhone ATM will play with benchmarks when I get home later -
Naw, I like to bash the M17x too... I'm personally waiting for clarksfield/rv870/gt300
-
I'm with u on that!
I just can't justify paying £1300 for a pair of 260's yet alone the cost for the 280's over the ati's
most of the remaining core components are the same really -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I still got so.e benchmarks from my whitebook. hehehe.
i'm working on the sager np9262. just finding out it's strength and weakness with everything. I jumped the gun on it. but i'll throw some benchmarks of it also.
