    Hi Folks,

got a M17X today as a replacement for my XPS 1730. Did a clean install of Win7 then. For the 4870`s I intalled 9.12 driver with hotfix.

Well now it shows me that only 1 GPU is working. So now I´ve been searching in my installation folder for a ATI-application that allows me to switch Crossfire on/off. Am i blind? There must be some tool to manage the graphics, comparable to the nvidia-drivers you can start with a right-click with your mouse.

Bios settings are okay. Driver is definitely installed.

How can I fix that? Thanks in advance!

Congrats on your new system. Here is how you enable CrossFireXt

    1) Un-install the 9.12 Hot Fix ( Delete the ATi folder in program files after if folder is still there) Then restart.
    2) Install the Dell Driver first > R237788. Then restart after that.
    3) Now install 9.12 hot fix and restart, DONE !!!

Wow, after uninstalling the 9.12 and setting up the Alienware-Stock-driver he gave me a BSOD during the setup.

Rengsey, thanks a lot for your guide, I`ll manage that tomorrow. It`s 1:33 am now and I`ll try to catch some hours of sleep.

But say, isn`t it weird that u can`t just install a driver like the 9.12 on a clean windows-installation? I got used to cleanly uninstall first, use tools like driver sweeper, then install a new driver.

This is new to me. Gotta learn, but first sleep....

    Gd` night....

I do nothing special myself. I download 9.12, mod it then install it.

Sounds to me like the common way to install a driver, but didn`t work in my case. Must be the modding-thing... ;)

Damn, I had nearly finished this post when I got an BSOD again!!! Must be because I set me CPU @ 3.20, just by mutlipier 12. Wouldn`t let me get any higher, BSOD`d during Windows-startup with anything higer than 3.20. Probably have to test an test, highering FSB, reducing multiplier... if I only had more time.

Here`s my result with GPU@stock with 9.12 and [email protected]. Now I really slip under the blanket. NIGHT!!!

mod your 9.12 driver under Win XP system. UAC blocks some function of mobility modder. I had a same issue just like yours. I moded my driver again under XP, then Crossfirex option appeared

You can't install the drivers from the ATI site for mobility systems without modding them first with mobility modder:

    http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php

After you mod then you can install it just fine and both cards will work.

Which is why my UAC is permenantly disabled, for eternity. Well, not solely for that reason, it does annoy me a lot as well when it asks me to confirm ANY action.

So they sell you a system for thousands of bucks and don`t let u install a driver of your choice

So this is what I did:

    1) Clean install w/ modded 9.12 + modded Hotfix: CF failed
    2) Clean install w/ OEM-Driver, uninstalled OEM-Driver, installed modded 9.12 + modded Hotfix: CF failed
    3) Clean install w/ modded 9.11: CF failed
    4) Cean install w/ OEM-Driver, then installed modded 9.12 + modded Hotfix without uninstalling OEM-Driver: CF works

All the moddings have been done on a XP-system.

Haven`t compared the Gaming-Performance of the OEM-Driver versus 9.12. Only had 3DMark06 running which gives me a 17.144 (9.12) versus 16.982 (OEM) on first runs with [email protected] (Multilier12) and GPU @ Stock. Hopefully tweaking Windows-services and stuff gives me some more room.

Thanks a lot to all of you, woudn`t have made it without your help. I had no idea that AW won`t let u install a Non-OEM-Driver and that you have to use a modding-tool first. Always had XPS-systems with nvidias which wouldn`t be that y.

Is it the same hassle with AW and nvidias?

    Cheers

    Barabab

You need to use the modding tool because 9.12 is a desktop driver, not mobile. Cat 9.9 is the latest mobile driver.
