The other my hard drive started making that terrible clicking sound with the 1-2 second pause. I have 1tb raid 0 configuration and I am wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to clone the faulty drive and replace it with an identical healthy drive. I already have Windows 7 and 500gb of apps, games, and files installed and I REALLY don't want to have reinstall everything. So has anyone done this before...successfully??? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

I don't believe you can. Try cloning the raid to a desktop drive via USB. Replace the drive and then clone it back.

This is why I got away from raid 0 in laptops.

You should be able to backup your hdd with acronis, then restore the backup after you install the new hard drive. Though keep in mind the backup will be like 400gb+ so make sure you get a high capacity external or something :)

Tried Acronis True Image Home 2010 and i can back up the "C" partition inside windows, but I still can't see the raid array when i boot with the bootable rescue media. So do I have to replace the drive, reinstall Windows 7 and Acronis and then restore the backup??? I suppose this wouldn't be as bad as reinstalling EVERYTHING but it would definitely prefer to be able to skip reinstalling windows again!!! Thanks again for your help....or any other advice you may have!!!

After you change the hdd and finish setting up the raid then you can restore the C partitioned you backed up. Since the hdd's will be in raid 0 the info will be written on both disks when you restore it.

You will probably need to format the hdd since i doubt it will have a partition ready when you buy it. So if you cant do it with another program, just reinstall windows 7 without activating it (takes like 10mins) then reboot to restore the backup. Its not like you have to install drivers or anything :p

ps: i think many people use Gparted as a bootable partition manager, so you might want to look into it as well.
