Hey All,
Just got my M17XR2, but the power adapter doesn't seem to be working. The system complains that there is no adapter connected. I have my 210W from my M6400 plugged in at the moment, it supplies power but the battery isn't charging. I also assume that I am nt getting full power, is there anyway to check?
I assume the blue band on the plug that goes into the system is supposed to light up when the adapter is getting power?
-
Yeah it is supposed to light up! Oh man thats gay id call up a rep right now and go crazy on them for sending you a bad power supply and have them rush a new one out to right now or your returnign it and going asus lol
-
Yeah dude, call them up asap and demand to get what you paid for, don't accept some broken pos.
-
Give them the analogy that you just mailed me a 3 thousand doller brick, what are you supposed to do with somthing that dosent even have a power source.. That would suck hopefully you get it overnighted
-
So much for the wait time being under 15 minutes.
-
To fix:
1. Unplug your AC and system battery, make sure there is no power source.
2. Hold the power button down for 20 seconds.
3. Plug battery and AC adapter back in.
4. Enjoy! -

Str4's trick will do.
And I suggest you stop doing this:

Hi JTOverath,
Sorry to hear that you received a DOA power adapter. The blue ring is in fact supposed to light up when you plug it in. I wouldn't recommend using other power adapters on your notebook, as they aren't designed to meet the power needs and could possibly damage it. All hardware is tested when it leaves the factory. However, DOA deliveries still occur every once in a while. This doesn't mean that Alienware intended to send you a $3,000 "brick" as some have stated. This simply means that an unforseen failure occured between the the time the laptop left the factory and the time it actually delivered.. Call Dell as soon as possibly, and they will most likely overnight you a new power adapter.
Thanks,
Gabe -
Well yeah i know they didnt intend to send him a brick but there QA failed to test that component properly so they failed in that matter. I wasnt trying to slander the whole beast that is dell/alienware
-
I used the 210W to make sure it was the adapter and not the laptop itself.
Now I am just waiting for the rep to do whatever he is doing so I can get a new one. -
Kind of depressing having this beautiful beast and not being able to do anything with it. LOL
-
You are using the power button on the bottom of your charger right?
-
-
My system freezes when i unplug the power. have to hold down the power button to make it responsive. the computer seems to have an issue transitioning to battery power.
-
errr i meant under your battery, there should be a power button
-
-
Well on the R1, there are 5 circles under the battery, and when pressing the first one, they light up blue and it fixes the problem you are having. You're on the R2, so i dunno.
-
Oh you mean the battery status indicator.
-
Yup
1. Unplug your AC and system battery, make sure there is no power source.
2. Hold the power button down for 20 seconds. (The power button is the ONE under your battery, not the laptop power button)
3. Plug battery and AC adapter back in.
4. Enjoy!
That should work with your problem because its the same one I had a while back. -
Doesn't seem to have helped. I think the power brick is dead. They are sending me a new one. Hopefully next day, but all the guy could tell me was they were sending it FedEx.
-
And now I think the battery is out of juice.
-
Have to say that while the machine had power, that LED display is beautiful.

Try changing your wallpaper to this one under Windows 7 > Characters:
amazing. -
Well they sent it next day, unfortunately it didn't ship until this morning. So another day without power.
-
Yeah that really blows....
-
JT, sorry you got a DOA adapter. If you have the single graphics card, you can use your M6400 adapter (210W) until your new adapter arrives.
-
I am also not sure why a bad power adapter goes into the system as "WRONG SOFTWARE REVISION"
-
-
-
Well replacement adapter is in. Think I will let it warm up a bit before I plug it it.
-
Well new power adapter is working great, now I just have to wait as my steam games copy from the external drive.
-
Good deal, man. Glad to hear they made good on their fail.
-
Glad to hear it has all worked out for you
Nothing more frustrating than having an issue right out of the box.
