    Hello there,

    i have a brand new Alienware M17xR2 with 920xm, 8GB DDR3 and so on.
    I changed the two harddrives from Seagate 160GB to 1 x Intel X25-E 64GB and one WD 640GB. I activated AHCI in Bios but my Harddrive is not as nearly fast as it should be. Whatch the HDtune Screenshot..

    [IMG]

    Does anyone can tell me why the hell it is so slow??
    The Harddrive costs 700€ ???

    Thank you

    The X25-M with 80 GB has the same issue, Maximum Read 167MB/s

    The X25-M should be arround 250MB/s the X25-E around 270MB/s

    You should have a read of up to 250MBs and a write speed of up to 170MBs. BTW do not look at the average read and write speeds. Check to see if it is on high perfromance and if TRIM is enabled.

    @TheCodeBreaker
    Intel X25-E is SLC and unlike X25-M it doesn't support TRIM. Only MLC support TRIM

    @mollet
    Yes it is slow.
    To begin, try to follow those tips:

    Did you do a clean install of Windows when you changed drives?

    EDIT
    What drivers do you use? The ones from MS or the Intel matrix storage?

    I would try a new install of windows.. Dont install the controller software
    Use the windows 7 default one for testing.. I noticed in my case that when i cloned my system drive from reg hdd to ssd it didnt perform as well as doing a fresh install.. I am sure its a driver issue that is messing you up.

    I was reading even the Intel matrix storage driver on their site isnt all that excellent.. I am not using it and am getting excellent reads and writes..

    To add to what others have said;

    make sure you have the latest firmware on the drive. I know my 80gb g2 came with older firmware.

    Also intel has a new version of chipset driver called rapid storage technology. I found that those perform better than dells chipset driver and better than the Microsoft ones. Not sure if that's the case with X25-E but worth giving it a try.

    Umm...check your battery to make sure you have the system in "High Performance" mode vice "Power Saver" mode. Now if that doesn't work, the above post is right with the recommendation that you try a fresh new install. This is the cure for 99.9% of problems associated to new ssds and the problem, in most cases, is people believing that cloning a nd reinstallation f an OS is a convenient way to go.

    I totally agree. I would not clone from old HDD to ssd if I was you. SSD to another SSD prolly would be ok. From experience I have had better luck doing a fresh install on SSD rather than cloning it from the RPM HDD
