M17x + Win 7 + fn f7?

Hey, i just installed windows 7 on my m17x, after installing most if not all of my drivers but after starting up in battery ode with intergrated graphics on, i tried hitting fn + f7 to turn on my 260m. wont even ask me about it. do i need to me plugged in? whats going on. also OSD wont work unless i turn it on everytime by the launch icon, which i put on my desktop. can i make it strat on startup by itself? thanks.

 

For the F7 thing, you need to have Hybrid graphics enabled in the BIOS. If you power on while unplugged this is automatically disabled and needs to be manually re-enabled to get the discrete card to work on battery power. When you plug your AC adapter in and press FN + F7 it should ask you to restart to enable hybrid graphics.

For the OSD thing go to Start -> run then type in msconfig then go to the startup tab and make sure the box beside "Alienware On-Screen Display" is checked.

 

ok, f7 thing is worked out. i thought i remembered it working on vista with battery only, but it also didnt seem to turn it off yesterday. working fine now.

now, the OSD thing. i had already tried that, the only problem is, its not there. do you know of a way to add a program manuallyto that list. right now i still use the launch icon i put on my desktop. thanks again

 

Glad the F7 thing worked.

I've never heard of something that should be starting up..not starting up lol, I'd reinstall your command center, that should fix the problem. I'm not really sure how to/if you can add things to startup that aren't in that list, most things (if not all) appear there automatically.

Merry Christmas to you too. and i fixed it by adding the icon to the startup folder. now it works and the only thing left to fix is the stupid alien respawn which doesn't show up any more and the update i installed keeps saying error. oh well.

As for the Alien Respawn, talk to Mr. Moo, I think he was doing something with restoring that. Not sure exactly what it was but it might be worth looking into. I formatted my comp when I got it so I never really had a chance to deal with that, sorry and good luck!

 

HEY , god damn it I had the problem with the fn f7 stuff , I saw you had to check the alienware on screen display stuff in the msconfig , i did it and now got error when booting my god damn laptop , it doesn t recognise windows anymore , it doesn t want to start anymore fffssssssssss , help me ¡¡
