me and my brother both owns alienware m17x we use the cryo lx notebookcooler.
    1) there is a fan control on your right side of the cooler
    2) you get to pick it contains dc to usb jack, and dc to outlet jack.
    3) three 120 mm fans, you can replace the fans yourself.
    4) no they are not loud when they are max setting. :)
$70 for it was worth it from ebay. I will never ever buy other notebookcooler then cryo lx its very reliable. My brother's m17x has reduced temp of 5 degrees up to 10 degrees from norm temp when gaming and idle.

p.s. the build for cryo lx is very sturdy just like alienware m17x cover. it looks liek cryo lx is designed to marry alienware m17x itself.

I can get it from NCIX for $80 CAD free shipping, no customs fees this way :) but I will end up ordering one on Monday as well as a bluetooth mouse. Gotta make use of the blue tooth function haha.

CRYO LX replace them 120 mm fans with Scythe SFF21E S-FLEX 120mm Case Fan 1200RPM reduces any under loaded notebook heat by 13- 15 degrees lower.

replace the crylo lx stock 120 mm fans with Scythe SFF21E S-FLEX 120mm Case Fan 1200RPM reduces heat load for your laptop up to 13-15 degrees lower. for those who needs a notebookcooler.

Sorry, but what is the difference of powering the cryo with USB or outlet?

The cryo comes with a 5v ac adapter that is 5v because of the usb ports. The 120mm fans need a 12v adapter for maximum performance. Do not attempt to use the usb ports while powering with 12v adapter or you will fry the circuit board in your cryo.

You are good to go DHC, Cryo has just recently begun shipping the coolers with ac adapter. I think you can email them and they will send you one. Better off getting a 12v one though and not using the usb ports.

Why people need a cryo with the beast cooling system inside their M17x's, god knows.

Because 3 120mm fans is better than 1-2 ~80mm fans..

And because if you use your laptop on a table with a sheet or something it will heat up. So the LX will surely be usefull to me. And it looks damm good...

Ha, I for one would like my Alienware to last a couple of years - with heavy usage, not granny-drives-only-on-Sundays level of usage! By then, there should be new techs making it worth investing in a new high-end gaming notebook, Alienware or otherwise....

I would consult with these guys about getting the correct adapter, my knowledge is limited to following the various cryo modding threads.

i think I am going to get the 4 pin adapter because if you disconnect the molex and power the fans directly the usb hubs will be disconnected and no chance to damage anything.

Probably have to get one of these to control the speed.

my brothers qx9300 alienware m17x overclocked to 3.06 temp before cryo lx is 91 degrees, after instaling cryo lx the temp is 82 degrees this is for stress testing at 8 hours of gameplay.

Power Supply for this, with a 4 pin molex
    http://www.coolerguys.com/840556088776.html

Just letting others know what to get if there interested... Tried before, but without suppliying the fans directly...Cause I know the fan controller stocked with cryo lx is limited to 5v. thanks once again sgilmore!

Just make sure the fans are good for 12V, you don't want to blow them up now.

I guess I'll wait and see what yours looks like and how it performs before proceeding with modding. Haven't figured out how gonna mount speed controller yet.

    Sgilmore -

I recieved my fan stuff to mock up the cryo to use 12 volt (see above post)

I ordered the wrong 4 way 3 pin connector to one 4 pins (only 2 connecters use 12 volts, other 2 use 5v) so this sucks, however.... I need 4 12 volt connecter...darnit

Only 2 fans are of use right now, but it seems to boost my fans more than they had gone before...only problem is that, the fans I have upgraded from the cryo stock fans, are crap (coolmaster R4 LED fans - with 90cfm ratings - they dont have them at coolerguys, by the way)... They are cooking at speeds, but I barely feel the air coming from the cryo top.... maybe these fans suck, however, does anybody have any suggestions to a 120mm fan that would actually "feel" the air cooking though the cryo... since the temps barely have differed from stock...

Maybe I have them in wrong, but im sure there correct... since bottom sucks paper to it, top of cryo blows it, but very very very little...These fans just such, and I would not recommend the coolermaster R4 LED 120mm fans, they suck...

Now I have to reorder some new fans, maybe scythe, or these ones I saw that are rated at 4500 RPM and pushes 205 cfm  by ratings of course http://www.coolerguys.com/840556021698.html Mechatronics 120mm x 38mm High CFM fan # MD1238X12B

the coolermaster are very quiet, but I guess thats what you get when you want queit over perfromance...

    thanks...

UPDATE: LOOKS LIKE IM STUCK GETTING THIS THING FOR ALL 3 FANS TO RUN (NEEDED FOR MORE ROOM FOR 3 FANS WITH 12V INSTEAD OF JUST 2 FOR 12V)Sunbeam Multi Fan Power Port # MFPP http://www.coolerguys.com/840556026983.html

SINCE I BUILT MY OWN LAPTOP DESK IN THE CORNER OF MY ROOM, I CAN JUST DRILL IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DESK, PLACE THIS UNDER MY DESK, AND PLUG IN, AND VOLA...NO CONNECTIONS LAYING AROUND... DID THE SAME THING WITH THE FAN SPEED CONTOLLER (WHICH IS UNDER MY DESK) THEN ILL JUST RELAY MY LAMINATE ON TOP AND CANT EVEN NOTICE
