I just got a new Intel SSD. Do I need the AHCI on or off?

Sure (on), as long as you don't plan on running XP.

Edit: Better yet test it and let us know which works best.

Dosn't matter which AHCI mode I try all I get is a quick BSOD and reboot when I turn it on.

Well unless someone shows me it's much faster I'm not reloading this whole OS.

you don't have to reload the OS...set the BIOS to whatever the OS was loaded with, edit the msahci reg, restart, set it to what you want, that will stop the blue screens, it is just the AHCI driver disagreeing with what the BIOS is set to

I did a quick search and OCZ was the only one to say don't use AHCI. I didn't see anything from Intel.

What do I need to do to get AHCI to work in Vista after the OS is installed?

if it was installed with AHCI, nothing. If installed in RAID, nothing, as RAID uses AHCI

if it was installed in IDE mode than you need to change a value in the MSAHCI registry - do not remember the exact stuff here but just search Vista and AHCI - Microsoft has an article on it

I made the change and still get the BSOD. I actually started to install the OS in ANCI mode and got a BSOD on the first reboot during the install and then swapped it to SATA mode.
