    Hi guys,

I'm looking into swapping my Windows Vista 32-Bit OS for Windows 7 64-Bit...

As many of you know I have a M17x 1st Gen notebook and i wondered if the drivers for the "All Powerful/Dell" M17X are compatible?

Has this conversion been carried out yet?

Will our intrepid explorer survive the challenge?

    We'll find out...

Thanks, I've already found the drivers, some Dell and some AW but, i wanted to know if there were compatibilty issues, my M17x is 'Santa Rosa' not monty like the new M17X has...

I have already asked AW about the upgrade and it will cost approximately £186 + VAT from them for the full 64-Bit version. As my warrenty has expired i'm now looking at online prices...

The graphics drivers might work, but I wouldn't know if the drivers are modded or anything...Best to get them straight from nVidia.

As far as I know none of the others will work. Remember that this is a completely different notebook with a different chipset, different processor line, and different graphics cards.

As another tip why not purchase a Windows 7 upgrade package? That allows you to get the great new OS along with installing it in 64-bit. Or is there any particular reason you want/need to stick to vista?

I've always prefered to do a clean install, i tried the Vista upgrader years ago and all it did was make a mess of my "old data" and put it into a folder...

I keep all of my personal stuff backed up along with my music etc.

    It
's mainly hardware issues that i'm concerned about, I don't want to install W7 and find that something doesn't work and there's no drivers for it...

I know most of W7 is based on the Longhord Kernel and therefore should support Vista programs but, better to make sure eh?

To be honest Vista is ok, does what i want but, i want the lates OS and speed increase that 64-Bit offers.
