hi guys i tested out sli on farcry 2 and it works no white screen flashing! but when i play warhammer with it it get really bad choppyness! is there anyway i can fix this or that? thanx guys =) taken 2 weeks for dell to send out a guy to replace my 2nd 280!
also guys if i completley max out fallout 3 with everything its abit choppy! anyone knows whats going on? bit confused
-
wtb help, i still cant enjoy playing games if its choppy for some reason = (
-
Its a bit strange really, Do the games you are playing support SLI? Are your drivers up to date? I dont usually deal with white screens hehe.
-
ye it was white flashing due to a broken 280, but it just got fixed today! i think my dirvers are uptoday, im really not very good with comps =s and i donwloaded the new drivers from dell.co.uk and just installed them
-
Just 1 GTX 280M? You sure both werent faulty? I know SLI in most cases can be notorious for causing frame tears and micro stutters, but NVIDIA often come out on the right foot with SLI systems,
Is all the hardware properly attached? Do you get an SLI Cable with mobile sector technology, i dont know much about SLI hehe. -
erm i dono lol im knowvery little about the insides of the computer. all i know is the guy came and replaced the right card and the white flashing stopped when SLi was enabled =)
but now its just choppy on high - ultra high settings -x imupdating all drivers from moos post http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=392653
ill see if that fixes it -
adrian do you have your cpu overclocked via FSB? i've noticed from personal experience on the M17x if i overclock by fsb i get choppiness in games, basically a stuttering effect but if i overclock to the same setting via multiplier everything is fine.
-
nothin is overlocked yet m8, i was waiting for my other 280 to get fixed b4 i started doing that

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
oh his there with you. tell him i said hi.
-
you tried disabling SLI and running it?
i was able to run fallout 3 with max settings on a much less powerful desktop -
its prety much fine with no SLI, but why is it causing issues withit on? im gona to install crysis with sli on see how that goes
-
crysis is set up for SLI so should run perfectly, some games just aren't set up for it unfortunately
-
just ran crysis @ 1900x1200 with all effects on high not ultra high and its really choppy =s im soo confused =/
-
maybe the vid card was not the whole issue, maybe the sli cable is causing some troubles also. first thing i would do is uninstall the graphics drivers. Get driver sweaper from here and install
http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
Go to Control Panel,
select uninstall programs and features
look for nvidia drivers and select uninstall
select the bullet for remove selected driver
then select nvidia graphics driver
then remove
once that is done reboot into safe mode
run driver sweeper and select clean Nvidia Display drivers
reboot back into normal mode.
if it prompts you to reboot again, do so
once all reboots are finished then install new driver.
The above steps are recommended anytime you are installing a new driver. as installing over drivers can leave some files behind that may cause issues. -
-
do i remove drivers including display? or except it?
-
-
really appreciate the step by step run through m8! im not very good with comps! ok ive done all that, could u link me what drivers and what to do exactly ? just so i dont mess up as usual =( thanks once again Kcussim
-
well to make it easy just use dell's 186.12 drivers which will work just by running the exe file.
get dells 186.12 drivers here
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/video/NV_Notebook_Performance_Driver_V64_July_2009.exe
OR
I currently use 190.38 drivers supplied by nvidia but these are desktop drivers and required modified INF's to install so it may be a little more than you want to do but if you do
first download this
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/nvidia/190series/19038_win7x64.exe
then download the modified INF from
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/190series/19038_win7x64/nv_disp.inf
then run the the 19038_win7x64.exe file, remember where it extracts and if it tries to run the setup just cancel. once cancelled then move the nv_disp.inf into the root directory of where you extracted the first file too. You should have a window pop up asking you to move/replace a file. say yes.
once all that is done go into that folder and run the setup.exe file and everything should install normally. reboot when it tells you too. Upon reboot check and make sure your sli is enabled if not enable it and reboot again. -
<3 ill try with just the first and easy one, if that clears issues up with baddd choppyness i can redo it and try the inf files! installing it now! thanx mate, ur comforting me, as i just hope its drivers and nothing else =( -
well there is a few other things it can be such as stealth mode or the power modes.

crysis warhead is coded better though. -

adrian do me a favor and play crysis for a little on high settings and see if you get microstuttering on occasions. Most of the time it seems to play fine but on occasions it will start to stutter a for a second or two. I would like to know if this may be a driver issue with 190.38's.
-
nomicrostuttering, but i put vsync on i was told it can help this?
also when i minmized with sli on my screns like turns on and on a sec later to refresh the desktop? is that just with sli ? never done it before -
Kcissem it could be a raid issue as well . i had that issue when i ran Raid0 on one of my laptops. The game i noticed it the most or at all on was in fact crysis .
-
-
as to minimizing the screen, i believe that is normal, happens to me. Probably something to do with the Hybrid SLI function. -
ahh ic! thnx m8 =)

This is off the topic but shouldn't we be able to play crysis on max settings with dual 280's...
I mean we spent at least 3k on a laptop and we should be able to max out a game thats atleast a year old or am i wrong? -
You can play it on very high but it wont be playable throughout the whole campaign . The 280's are really just overclocked 9800gtx's based on older technology . Playing it on a mixture of high/veryhigh is your best bet.

only thiing ive knoticed my 9400 temp is around 75-79 degreens when gaming and the gtx280's stay around 53. which is the same but the 9400 temp has gone from 71 max to 79? is this acceptable?
-
-
how u get so high! on high ive got about 20-25 during game play. is there any patches specifically for crysis to boost fps?
-
-
Try backing down FSAA a little. Also, you might want to try to play around with nHancer (no Nvidia video card owner should be without this wonderful tool!) to change the SLI mode and other options to use with your game and so on.
M17x 280 sli replaced finally!got a new 280 for SLI but i have problem with a game....
