Its a bit strange really, Do the games you are playing support SLI? Are your drivers up to date? I dont usually deal with white screens hehe.

Just 1 GTX 280M? You sure both werent faulty? I know SLI in most cases can be notorious for causing frame tears and micro stutters, but NVIDIA often come out on the right foot with SLI systems,

Is all the hardware properly attached? Do you get an SLI Cable with mobile sector technology, i dont know much about SLI hehe.

adrian do you have your cpu overclocked via FSB? i've noticed from personal experience on the M17x if i overclock by fsb i get choppiness in games, basically a stuttering effect but if i overclock to the same setting via multiplier everything is fine.

maybe the vid card was not the whole issue, maybe the sli cable is causing some troubles also. first thing i would do is uninstall the graphics drivers. Get driver sweaper from here and install

    http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

    Go to Control Panel,
    select uninstall programs and features
look for nvidia drivers and select uninstall
select the bullet for remove selected driver
    then select nvidia graphics driver
    then remove

once that is done reboot into safe mode
run driver sweeper and select clean Nvidia Display drivers
    reboot back into normal mode.
if it prompts you to reboot again, do so
once all reboots are finished then install new driver.

The above steps are recommended anytime you are installing a new driver. as installing over drivers can leave some files behind that may cause issues.

remove just the display drivers, if you remove them all you will also have to install the chipset drivers again.

well to make it easy just use dell's 186.12 drivers which will work just by running the exe file.

    get dells 186.12 drivers here

    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/video/NV_Notebook_Performance_Driver_V64_July_2009.exe

    OR

I currently use 190.38 drivers supplied by nvidia but these are desktop drivers and required modified INF's to install so it may be a little more than you want to do but if you do

    first download this

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/nvidia/190series/19038_win7x64.exe

then download the modified INF from

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/190series/19038_win7x64/nv_disp.inf

then run the the 19038_win7x64.exe file, remember where it extracts and if it tries to run the setup just cancel. once cancelled then move the nv_disp.inf into the root directory of where you extracted the first file too. You should have a window pop up asking you to move/replace a file. say yes.

once all that is done go into that folder and run the setup.exe file and everything should install normally. reboot when it tells you too. Upon reboot check and make sure your sli is enabled if not enable it and reboot again.

Hey man sorry to hear u got issues aswell i get about 20 FPS when i run Crysis on High. I spent about 4 hours on the phone with AW tech support and got no where. They are going to send 2 new 280's overnight and someone to my house on Tuesday to replace them. At least thats what i was told i hope it doesnt take more than a few days to repair.

No problem, just remember anytime you upgrade the drivers remember to follow the steps i pointed out to you. As i said in most case installing a driver over a driver may not cause an issue but sometimes it can so the best way to avoid this is to completely clean it out which means uninstalling, rebooting into safe mode and running driver sweeper.

adrian do me a favor and play crysis for a little on high settings and see if you get microstuttering on occasions. Most of the time it seems to play fine but on occasions it will start to stutter a for a second or two. I would like to know if this may be a driver issue with 190.38's.

Kcissem it could be a raid issue as well . i had that issue when i ran Raid0 on one of my laptops. The game i noticed it the most or at all on was in fact crysis .

vsync just keeps the fps the same as your refresh rate, for instance the M17x refresh rate is 60 so vsync will not let it go above 60 FPS. If the game already does not hit that i don't believe vsync will matter. I could be wrong though

as to minimizing the screen, i believe that is normal, happens to me. Probably something to do with the Hybrid SLI function.

This is off the topic but shouldn't we be able to play crysis on max settings with dual 280's...
I mean we spent at least 3k on a laptop and we should be able to max out a game thats atleast a year old or am i wrong?

You can play it on very high but it wont be playable throughout the whole campaign . The 280's are really just overclocked 9800gtx's based on older technology . Playing it on a mixture of high/veryhigh is your best bet.

there is not many desktops that can max out crysis at the moment, does not matter that it's been out since 2007. but yes we can run the game with max settings for some of it, there is times that you will have to downgrade the settings later on. Personally i just run the thing on high settings but i add 2x AA onto it.

Try backing down FSAA a little. Also, you might want to try to play around with nHancer (no Nvidia video card owner should be without this wonderful tool!) to change the SLI mode and other options to use with your game and so on.
