Ok another looooooooooooong day in the COC, God I'd rather be on patrol. ANyway.

I bought a m17x after reading numerous reviews, and raves declaring it the best thing since sliced bread (and the Marine Corps!!!).

I love mine and it performs great (maxes out Crysis). BUT when I look at the documents that came with my m17x im only getting 11,500 in 3dmark (what ever that means).

I didnt get the m17 because I thought NVIDIA was better (please no fan boys from either side just what I had thought and read) and at the time the m17x was posting better scores now there are m17's getting 15,xxx 3dmark avg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So how do I do my own 3dmark test?
How do I get better performance?
And lets see what you guys have gotten

    My system stats:
    2.5 ECU
    4 GIGS Ram
    2x 9800m GT running 182.45 drivers

PS I do love the m17x, no regrets, just how can i max it out?
Sorry for the long, multiple question post.

we are getting 15,xxx because we are overclocking and really testing and tweaking our systems :p GO NBR :D

it should be gaming perfect ...ATI cards are better then nvidia at synthetic benchmarks so that explains why your getting lower 3dmark06 scores and also the AW score that came with it is not a true score .....they puff up the score

you can overclock your GPU's and CPU but that will void your warrenty

btw your computer is proably running games alot better then mine so technically our system is a little under yours

the 9800m gt has the ATI m3870 by a little bit :)

Thanks for the quick responses. I know that the performance of ATI cards is dependent on the speed of the ECU. That isnt the same with NVIDIA correct? I downloaded the software from NVIDIA that will alow you to overclock the cards. How much is too much? I was informed that overclocking the ECU isnt realy that beneficial for NVIDIA cards is that true?

well considering what you have you shouldn't need to overclock to get better performance unless you just want better scores.

overclocking gpus is better when playing games at high resolutions not at low.... if you want better scores overclock your CPU to get better scores when you run at low res

nvidia doesn't get as big of a boost from a faster cpu like ATI does.

am i correct in saying you just want better scores and your gameplay is good?

Yes sir gameplay is fantastic for that matter. Fall Out 3 (which im playing now, the new Tombraider although nice looking just bore me) looks awesome in Ultra settings. I thought maybe a higher score meant better game play in high settings.

well yea i guess it will.......

i mean ur already on high

to get better FPS on high res overclocking the GPUs is the way to go but it will void your warrenty .....

Overclocking on laptops is NOT a good thing. You can always add additional cooling on desktops and "Most" desktop cards are made for overclocking and even additional cooling systems are provided for that function. However laptops do not allow for this.

In my humble opinion if you want longevity out of your laptop then I would recommend that you do not overclock. Be happy with what you got.

I see you have the 1440x900 screen so is that score of 16,105 at 1280x800 resolution on 3dmark06?

OC'ing the gpu's doesn't help hardly at all with scores since they are ran at a low res and the cpu would be the bottle neck
