    Hey guys,

So I have an m17x and have the battery attached to the laptop at all times, in case there's a power outage. I am worried that keeping the battery in charge mode the whole time will kill the battery life as it might try to charge even though its full, or even charge everytime it goes down below 100%.

Does anyone know if the Alienware batteries are smart batteries in which they automatically stop charging when full charge and restart charging when the level hits to a certain threshold? Or if there is a function in the Alienware computers that decides when to charge the battery?

Right now, I keep the battery charge level at 99% and manually turned off the charge using FN+F2 function. Would it be fine to leave the charging to on, and let it charge to 100%, without it killing the life of the battery? Any helpful ideas would be greatly appreciated.

IMO, batteries are cheap compared to my potential data- or time-loss in the case of a power outage or brownout. YMMV, but I say leave it in.

i really don't recommend turning off the battery like woofer said the danger of data loss and something burning out when there is a power outage far out weight the price of a battery. also when your battery is fully charge your system will automatically take power directly from the power supply instead of your battery. the onlly thing you need to do to maintain your battery is fully discharge it every once in awhile. look up a small app named battery care that should help you determine when you need to discharge or just discharge it once every month or so.
