M17x BIOS A03 Discussion Thread

Just surfing the Dell blogs to see if anything new is up regarding our 'supposed' BIOS fix and found this from DELL-JohnB:

Hopefully then they can work on fixing the drivers, command center, etc.

UPDATE: Nagshead has confirmed that the new A03 bios for the M17x has been released to the website and should be fully populated and ready for public downloading within the next few hours.

 

Nice find, it might also be a BIOS update for the new refreshed M17X.

 

Hmm, I wonder what kinda things this will change other then the expected issues. MAybe I can see higher benchmarking scores?? Who knows. Guess we'll see.

Hope this BIOS will kill all the stupid issues and won't create new ones. That the least thing Dell can do for me to ease my pain for not having the new luxury RBG LED display new folks here gonna get

I think this is Alienwares way of kissing up to us recent M17X owners who are kicking themselves for not waiting

 

I did wait...2 months.

 

If I could choose again I know I would still choose to have my M17x at the end of Oct like I actually did. Hooking myself up with the MBP longer do no good for me and I have to get through a long boring time without gaming, playing around with my Alienware and chit chat here

But I can't deny It's a damned pain. The screen is the worst part on M17x and it keeps the lappy from being a all around perfect system

It's not time for whining anyway. Glad that Dell refreshs its all products with the new tiny baby M11x

 

I hope they fix the sound latency problem!

 

I still don't get all the hate on the screen. Mine's a Samsung 19*12. I have no complaints.

Latency issue is the only thing I need fixed. Otherwise I am quite happy with this.

I am debating getting an M11x and an ALX desktop - then selling my M17x.

 

It's a pity they won't update the BIOS for my m17x to release the clock adjustment like the 1730 has...

People are bothered by the auto dimming on the screen. I would obviously opt out of that option too if I could.

yeah ~ been waiting this for months and hope the new bios fix the shutter problem..

 

I really hope this comes out today, kinda worried about putting it on the system after hearing about m15x users being bricked.

 

If it's out by the time I get off work, (8hr time diff from U.S. east coast) I'll throw it on mine. I have no problems being the test subject. I'm not worried about bricking it. I payed for the warranty, may as well put it to use.

 

ahah I was just saying (more like writing) on a french forum that if this thing was released today, i would probably wait for brave warriors on NBR to test it.

If M17x users are messed up this time I will be very surprised. Dell cannot make the same mistake again in just 1 week. Hopefully they're gonna test it carefully and will only release it after being sure that there is no big problem with it.

 

My guess is that due to the M15X BIOS dilemma, the M17X BIOS will be delayed. Silly is right that it would reflect negatively, and be costly, for them to risk another similiar error. I'm sure that there will be additional testing, and it may even delay it up to a week, although I'm not sure the Monday deadline (11Jan2010) was ever really set in stone, but more of a guesstimate

 

Im in kuwait, internet is horrible here. I did my year in Iraq and am on my way out. Camp Virginia and Watanyia suck.

Actually I am hoping that they have properly fixed he DPC issues with this BIOS update more than anything else.

 

Maybe it has been delayed as DELL learned something from M15x BIOS incident!

Hope we will get a proper BIOS for M17x!

I will probably wait you dudes to try the new bios before me! I primary use the m17x for work and if it will crash my alien I will probably try to crash Dell!!!

I got 10 bucks that says we wont see a new bios any time soon, especially since they bombed on the m15x update.

 

spoke to tech support and guess what no bios..its not ready they said... :mad

 

big shocker. you know the execs came down on them hard after Friday's failure.

 

Maybe Friday's BIOS was for us and someone uploaded it to the wrong database.

 

Thats the thought I had as soon as I started seeing the reports of the bricked 15X's

 

If you tried it, it should fail the initial verification before attempting the flash.

It looks like the m15x bios problem is going to extend the delay.

 

waste of time....ridiculas...its almost like putting the carrot in front of the mule.(jackass)....and seeing how long it will take for them to make usscream...driving me nuts

 

Pretty much what I thought. Oh well, not like I'm going anywhere.

 

I think we're better off waiting for the m17x to refresh over to i7s then push for replacement i7 machines. That's what it's going to come down to.

 

Realistically, Dell/Alienware needs to hit a homerun with this update...

Given the bad press they received on the immediate heels of CES due to the botched M15x bios update and the bad press we gave back in November(courtesy of Engadget, Gizmodo, etc.) for their delays in acknowledging we had a problem with the M17x, we still have a very good chance of getting our update today.

All eyes in the industry are effectively on them now. I spoke to our corporate rep with Dell today and he said that he's never seen the level of activity (meetings, etc) that is taking place today.

They are now at (at my father used to say) 'put-up or shut-up' time. They have to deliver or else Round Rock and Austin might as well get ready for pitchforks and torches.

They've already lost all credibility with M15x users and the patience of the M17x users is about at an end... They run a very serious chance of losing all credibility for the Alienware brand. I doubt they're willing to take that gamble.
