reboot the computer and at the BIOS, tap F8 to enter safe mode. Once in safe mode, depress the eject touch button.

you'll have to contact dell tech support then for troubleshooting. sorry :(

there is no 'emergency paperclip eject' option on the M17x drive.

Try this. Select drive, and right click eject, in safe mode. Don't press the eject button. It worked for me when mine was stuck.

If nothing else helps, you can try to load an Ubuntu linux from a USB stick or an external DVD-Drive (if you have it) without affecting the system, and then click Places->DVD/ROM->right-click->eject. It works like a charm. Had a similar problem and couldn't eject it in W7 even on reboot and safe mode, so booted into linux and viola!...
    Good Luck.

rockfock did you happen to move your laptop with the disc in the drive? i once made the mistake of leaving a DVD in my system and then throwing it into my backpack to take home, when i finally got home i was not able to eject the disc & the system did not detect a disc as even being inserted. If this is your case i would suggest you contact dell to have your drive replaced, unless your like me and are comfortable dissasembling the system and the drive so that you can reseat the disc. At first when i was trying to fix my drive i just removed the disc completely but the slot drives have this metal bar that stops your from inserting a second disc in the drive when 1 is inserted, if this bar is in the up position like it was on me you need to properly eject a disc for it to go back down. If its in the down position already then you should be safe just removing the disc from the drive. This is a very difficult process and requires the removal of parts of the system to access the drive. If you are a novice on these type of things i would highly recommend just contacting dell for a replacement.

wouldn't running diagnostics at startup be of any help? I believe it has helped some people with this kind of issue, but don't know if it was the same Dell computer though :confused2:

    This happened to me once.
I went to BIOS or something... idk used one of those options when you first boot up the computer.
Then I found a list of external devices, went to the CD drive, and there was an option to eject the CD.

this happens to me alot.. all you have to do is wait for it to read the cd properly. when you boot your com, go to my computer and right click on ur cd drive. it will make ur my computer unresponsive but just leave it there for a while.. maybe 5-10 or even 20 minutes it will then read ur cd properly and you can then eject it.
