    Hey everyone,

I finally received my M17x today...and boy am I frustrated. I can't even turn the laptop on!!!

So I called Dell...and they told me to perform various things like turning it on with or without the plug, remove battery and use the plug only, etc. Even told me to unplug cord and battery and press power button for 20seconds to discharge the static.

All of the above doesn't work.

Now, Dell offered me two options:
    (1) Send a replacement motherboard to me
    (2) Send a new unit to me

Now before I rage at Dell again, I just want to ask if anyone had this happen to them before and know a solution.

    GRRRR

When you say "doesn't turn on" do you mean zero activity, period, or do the lights turn on for a moment and then shut down?

You just got a DOA unit. Request a replacement or a refund. Not much here to talk about.

Yep - Lithus nailed it... Have them re-order and expedite. Might also ask for a upgraded CPU or coupon/gift card at no additional charge. Dell is pretty good about compensating in a situation like this.

That kind of delay really sux. I feel for you - been there before.

My Dell sales rep said she'll arrange Engineers to come over on Monday to fix the machine and replace any necessary parts. Fingers Crossed.....

Yeah I would rather have a replacement unit however I am a bit pushed for time.

I am in New Zealand while my M17x is in Taiwan with my relatives... and they will be coming very soon along with the laptop (btw, I told my cousin to test my laptop and he's the one who found out this problem). So I really can't afford to wait another 2 weeks for them to rebuild a new one.

Hopefully they can replace the bad parts and get everything working within a day.

    !@#$ DELL..............

Also Dell agreed to transfer my Warranty to New Zealand so I can deal with them instead of sending the unit back to Taiwan in the future

You can't really be mad at Dell, this happens with every company out there. You're just one of the unlucky ones. They have offered to fix it and/or send out a replacement haven't they?

Anyways, thanks everyone for the support. I think we should just let this thread drift by.
