it has only two slots for memory if i am right...
so you would need to buy 2x4gb sticks.

note to LosAngeles: keep this in your thread you started please...do not cross post...or i will have to move posts..thanks.

ps: merged them anyway to keep topics seperate.

Yes there are only two slots.

    A piece of advice: DON'T GET 1333MHZ. IT'S POINTLESS. JUST GET 1066MHZ.

The ONLY advantage (and this is still just mostly speculation with one test confirming it) is that it will provide SLIGHTLY, SLIGHTLY better stability when overclocking the FSB. Not worth the price increase whatsoever.

Oh, and I also think that 8GB is pointless. You'll only see a very slight performance benefit for something that will cost you at LEAST $600-$800 to get right now. Wait until 4GB sticks come down in price, and until 8GB will actually provide a significant performance benefit.

Your 4GB of 1066 should do absolutely fine. But if you do really want 8GB, go for 1066MHz. I THINK it's 204 pin...should be fairly easy to find.

8GB isn't pointless if it's actually utilized. There is no performance difference if it's not utilized.

If buy it in newegg 4gb modules 1333 ram is the same price of 1066 so the 1333 is a better deal in this case.

If u r going to buy through dell go for 1066 :p

Yes, but how many people/programs are going to utilise 8GB, looking at the present? All I can think of is major graphics design (CAD) or extreme multitasking...lol.

Currently the majority of the world is still on 32-bit systems which can only physically utilise 3-3.5GB of RAM so most games, even the highest end games like Crysis and its future successors, and even games in development right now, are not likely to therefore utilise more than 3GB of RAM, taking into account the OS's usage as well. If any program did require more than 3GB of RAM then it would not be usable by the majority of people due to 32-bit OSs, and few major game manufacturers are only going to target people with 64-bit systems.

For that reason the ONLY REAL use I see of 8GB in the present is extreme multitasking. Maybe if you were multiscreening multiple high-usage games at once.

When, and only when, the majority of operating systems become 32-bit will manufacturers really start to develop programs and games that will utilise more than 2GB of RAM (factoring in the OS as using the rest, which in Vista's case it easily does.)

Hell, I play Crysis and other high end games and I'm still running them fine on 2GB.

I think the point is he didn't say what he was going to do. People do deal with multi GB files and have a program that can properly cache them in memory. The you have people wanting to run virtual environments on their system which can properly utilize the memory and everyone is running 64 bit unless they downgrade.
