i just talked to a alienware rep this morning and used alienware contact and he said that i should call dell and tell them i want an exchange because it wasnt even a month since i received the laptop, but should i wait to see if they can remplace it for one of the refreshed m17x? will they?

id ask for an exchange unless you want to go without for a month for when it goes back to the factory for repairs, or if you have that home service use that

If you ask to replace it they may still have a refurb and give you that. So i suggest get a refund if possible.
