I haven't found any topic about this, but does anyone with Dual 260M GTX's notice that when the GPU is under some stress, it screeches? Is this normal or is this fixable?

Same thing here, although it apparently only occurs in some rare occasions during video playback, I have never experienced it in game. I even wonder whether it's the GPU's that screech or just the audio that gets scrambled up due to driver/codec support?

I have had this too, except with 280's.

It has never happened during playing for me, the only time it has happened is during the startup splash screens that show before playing Crysis. Once I get to the menu it stops and doesn't happen during gameplay either..... very odd....

The slight noise you hear is normal; the electricity running through the notebook creates it.

Try installing atitool and opening the 3dview, You'll hear some screeching as well.
Some cards do it under heavy loud some dont, My 4870's do it as well when I use atitool and so do my 260's.
I wouldn't be concerned with it.

Even with the 8800M GTX SLI on the XPS M1730 I could hear this between test module changes in 3DMark06. I can hear it as well with the 280M SLI during test module changes only (again, 3DMark06). Doesn't really bother me since its not persistent and is very brief.

I did notice with the Nation Red Demo it actually was very persistent. During the entire load to main menu screen I could really here it. If you are interested and are on Steam, run this demo:

    It's very faint, IMO.

Stick your ear to the bottom of the system (where the GPU vents are).

I always used to hear it when running the solar winds screen saver on high settings. available here: http://www.reallyslick.com/

max out most settings, give it about 5-7 winds (more could crash ur pc) and like 5000 emitters. max out most speeds and keep the size low (or itll look dumb)

if you have an m17x or xps m1730, running this screen saver should make that sound occur.

exactly why it happens I believe was explained by Soviet Sunrise here:
