Okay, so I'm playing Borderlands....all is smooth..but after about 30mins...the left GPU fan is at full speed....SLI is enabled...I don't think that matters? Is that the primary GPU? It's very loud and noisy but didn't effect the performance of the game what so ever...should I worry or not? But the noise is very distracting though? All settings are at high and bloom, etc is on... not anti...and screen is at max 1920 x 1200 res... here's some temp shots!!!

I guess it's normal mine does that too. The problem is that you can't control the fans manually :S

Is it weird when 1 260 is a lot cooler than the other?

I think that's normal cuz when ur not gaming one gpu downclocks to save power and reduce heat, that's why gpu 1 temp is higher ...

You've got a desktop - competing gaming rig about 1/8th the size and all packed into one machine. Loud fans come with the performance territory. Just crank up the speakers and be glad its not melting on your desk :)

Sli isn't optimized well for Borderlands then. It's a new game, I'm sure performance will improve with patches.

It appears that your cards aren't running in SLI mode in Borderlands, as your driver doesn't appear to have a good SLI profile for Borderlands yet.

Install the Nvidia SLI Update 3 which adds a working SLI Profile for Borderlands.

Or install nHancer (Great tool, you can create profiles for any games to enable SLI in them - essential, especially for notebook users of which drivers usually lag behind desktop releases), create a profile for Borderlands and set it's SLI Mode's Hex value to 2406405 (that's what the Nvidia SLI Update 3 sets it to), Anti-Aliasing compatibility to 000100C5 to get FSAA to work, Hybrid SLI to 1 and whatever FSAA level you wish to run.

Click here for a guide on how to check and enable SLI in games which don't have profiles with SLI support in your current driver yet.

With high performance notebook components comes a lot of heat. To get rid of that lots of heat, you need lots of cooling. Sadly, this does result in a high fan noise.

Be glad that the M17x's fans are actually quieter on full blast than most gaming laptops. For example, the M17's fans can rise above 50dB on full load, the M17x doesn't go that loud.

Having had both machines my M17x was far louder ... The M17 has a higher pitched noise but i cant hear the fans through my headphones whilst the M17x i could hear no problem :).. Its amazing the amount of noise those fans can put out.. having owned so many notebooks over the years its by far the loudest machine i have ever heard period..

I don't care if the noise is only air but mine constantly make a clicking sound and it's driving me crazy.

Answering your sig question - nope. M17X is the best gaming laptop overall and Dell provides the best overall support. escalate your case and you'll resolve the issue.
