Hey everyone,
After being tormented by deciding between NP8662/M17x/M15x refresh... I finally decided on the M17x and ordered it from Dell Taiwan (my dad will bring it over next time he comes)
Taiwan's M17x's stock specification is almost the same as U.S. Spec except that:
(1) Nebula Red comes free of charge
(2) 1920x1200 resolution is default option (can't choose lower)
(3) 320GB 7200rpm is default (forgot if Dell US is the same)
(4) Unfortunately no custom name plate......![]()
(5) Cheaper Price: USD1572.76
When it arrives in a few weeks I will definitely write a full review on this laptop, including undistorted (proper lighting etc) photos of the Nebula Red Chassis.
Hope you guys look forward to it ^__^
I might have to ask you guys some questions later on so thanks in advance!

Congrats on the purchase!
-
Wow, Nice price!
& Congratz -
Ooh la la. Congrats
-
Thanks guys, since there isn't many Nebula Red pics around, I'm hoping to help out by providing more info. Is the Nebula Red out of stock in the US or sth? How come not many ppl posting pictures?

that price is ridiculous...congrats!
-
Awesome! With a great price too. CONGRATS!
-
According to the UK website, it doesn't cost any extra to select 'Nebula Red' either. Seems the US are finally getting screwed over. =p

Very nice machine, congratulations!
And great price . . . wow. You'll be very happy with it. -
I don't know about the base but I just tried, I mean tried since I can't read Chinese, to configure one like mine (only 1 HDD though, 320GB, not 1TB) and it costs more than the price here in the US, including shipping and tax, about $200 more.
Maybe the base is cheaper but as soon as you start upgrading that is another story.
94,336.00 NTD ~ $2,877
Anyway, looking forward to the pics.
Edit: Ok I must be doing something wrong or going to the wrong site but the Dell Taiwan site for the M17x has a starting price as 60,000 NTD, or $1829.63 USD...I'll just leave it alone.

Just upload them as attachments so we can just click them and see them.
Most of us don't like having to download just to see some pics, very easy for you to edit your post and add them as attachments. -
Actually I find the company Boxstr.com really nice for pictures uploads. -

You don't even need to host them, you can add those 5 pictures as attachments in your post, don't worry about hosting sites.
-
So if I have one download to use free which pic should I choose...hmmmm
-
Thanks guys for all the blessings, I hope nothing goes wrong with the machine.
Regards to the pricing (as WaR has kindly pointed out) I apologise for not making it clear:
Yes the base price is 60,000NTD = USD1832.23
But you know how in the States you could get that EPP + DPA?
In Taiwan, EPP is 9% also if you're working for a technology company you can avoid tax which is another 5%.
Altogether that's a 14% discount therefore price drops to USD1575.71 (according to today's currency on www.xe.com/ucc) (was USD1572.76 yesterday damn...lol)
Anyway -l-Z3K3-l- thanks for the pics I'm gonna check them out now. -
Ahhh... I see. Thanks for clearing that up buddy. Now I can say it: Awesome pricing!
-
ok. pics uploaded now
-
@ OP: congrats on the new purchase. that is a bad @$$ price and we look forward to seein the nice pix.

I still don't like that color red. This is the Vostro in cherry red. They should have used this color.

-l-Z3K3-l- : *drool* your photos just made me more....well...*drool* lol
Mandrake: I would of liked that shade on the Vostro too (very similar to blood red), but I think the current red is attractive also~ kind of like FERRARI red. Maybe that's why they did it haha -
Ferrari red? OK. That was a disturbing thought since I associate Ferrari red on a computer to the Acer Ferrari which uses an AMD processor. Imagine an M17x Nebula Red with AMD Turion 64.. yuck...
=
I think I saw an Photoshoped Ferrari M17x in that Photoshop thread. -

Honestly i think the red is great myself.
But mine will be black once i've finished messing with this one
(have a few to mess with) -
WaR: WOW ok , maybe not that bright.....that red is just repulsive.
miichael: mmm....looks good....*more sleepless nights*
Krane: yep, Alienware should offer custom skins and paint jobs too... this will make the ULTIMATE custom gaming laptop
-l-Z3K3-l-: HOW MANY M17Xs' do you have?? lol >< *envious* -
Though I am on fence between m17x and the matte 17in macbook pro, both same price with student discount for configuration i want. The video made the red look really nice...
-
have 4 at present. but two are faulty and will be canabalized for parts
-
-l-Z3K3-l-: WOW 4? Crazy.....may i ask why u have so many?
SO I checked my order status today.....and SOMEHOW it says my color is Black Base..........just e-mailed Dell asking what's going on....sigh. -
It should say RED Metallic.... I just ordered mine last night.
-
I think the red color is different from us and other countries?
Right? -
They're all made in the same Xiamen facility in China so I'd have to say they are all the same. lol

Save a few similarities, these two aren't really in the same category. For my needs (multimedia), I found the HP EliteBook 8730w to be a much closer challenge. Particulary because of it's vastly superior screen. -
Yeah m17x and macbook pro are in different catagories for most part but they both have build quality thats great which I like. Macbook has portability and battery life and matte screen and could use my pc for gaming, or take gaming portable with alienware but deal with the glossy screen but have a lot of gaming power. Last night I tossed the Lenovo t500 on my choices due to build quality and had 15.4 matte screen.
all in all once my money gets to me I will flip a coin and go with it be happy any direction I go. -
I've just checked with Dell and they changed my order to nebula red. Yay.
lol it wud b funi if my red was different. Anyway eta 3 weeks. -
