M17x Ordered

Thanks to all the information I found on these forums I went ahead and ordered my M17x, I know I'm going to be happy, can't wait to have it delivered.

I'm going to play the safe odds and say you don't need 8GB of RAM. I go with this hunch because the people that use more than 4GB would buy it and the QX9300 cheaper aftermarket and install it themselves.

I believe you can still cancel while it's in production and if my guess is right then you should and save yourself a good chunk of cash by going for the 4GB 1066Mhz option. If you want to save even more go for the 260M SLI because the performance gained from the two 280m cards isn't worth the extra money. 280m's are not a big a waste of money as 8GB of RAM but if you want to save that's where you can.

You already know where I stand on SSD RAID....and BTW you could have done without starting a new thread.

good luck with your new system....if that is what you want then go for it....there are alot of different opinions on ram ssd...ect...but what matters is that u got what u wanted

Good points, I'm still reading on the SSD situation, as far as the RAM, I plan to run a a few video editing softwares that do benefit from max RAM, I'm actually trying to make sure 2-3 years down the line I'm still good without having to replace parts. With that said, I do realize that the 260 is SLI are just under 10% slower than 280 SLI however can that change with drivers?

 

Good to see someone taking that, "most powerful 17" notebook" thing seriously. Can't wait to see the benchmarks with the 8gb ram option.

The 260 and 280 are the same GPU with different shader counts so it's very unlikely that the same driver would benefit one card over the other.

Consider buying the RAM elsewhere, and if you're comfortable with trying to install your CPU buying the QX9300 can save you a few hundred dollars U.S.

Ahh thats right, i forgot he was waiting on those .

 

Ask Dell/AW cause only they know if/when they're going to release ATI cards.


I've actually waited so long now that I've gotten past that I want...must have...urge to buy and reached the point where waiting isn't bothering me. To be honest for what I actually use PCs for these days I'd be just as well off buying a 11.6" CULV like the Dell 11z or Acer 1410 than the M17x.

It'd be different if there was a good PVP MMO to play, or if I was heavy in to benching like some, but right now I can still wait.

 

What were the results of that flash?

it was just for poo and giggles .... also i wanted to see if they laser cut the 12 sp off (figured but i was bored)

i mean it perma uped the clocks to 280 levels but thats it

Nice Rig! I ordered mine also and they shipped it today! I couln't afford the SSDs or blueray right now though but everything else was maxed out. I hope you enjoy it.

I was able to get 10% off of it, i also shipped it to my Uncle in Iowa for a lot lower sales teax. 8.875 compared to like 6.5. Since its going to be there very early, i am going to ask him to send it to me before i go over there for vacation in 2 weeks. (Can't wait that much longer since i know its done and there)

I think the average is about 3 weeks.

Nah, mine shipped out and reached my old man's house in just over a week. Of course it took several weeks after that to make it over here to me....

 

I was VERY supprissed to lol. I just woke up today and my iphone said their was a email. I checked it and it was from Dell saying your order shipped. At first i thought it was old news. (Things i ordered about a week ago) But i checked it and it said your laptop has shipped eta Aug 28. I was like holy ****! That was fast, i thought it took at least 3 weeks not 1. Not like i am Complaining about it.

That's crazy... looks like Dell has done some work with the production times.... back in 2004/2005 ALX systems would take between 4-6 weeks to ship. I was under the thought that these M17x took about 4 weeks to ship. Mine says it's shipping Sept. 19th.

His order was VERY unusual so don't get your hopes up. lol

Average times are still about three weeks. Scook had his rep expedite it and it still took 2 weeks, IIRC.

Sorry to burst your bubble I put in an order on Sunday and got it expedited so I'll keep everyone up to date in the order status thread...

 

Likewise, I ordered on June 16, it said ship date was July 10, delivery date July 13. Then on June 23, I received an email saying my laptop shipped. My dad said it arrived Jun 25, which he mailed out to me the same day.

 

I ordered mine Sat 15 August and it shipped Monday due to arrive UK this Thursday 27th August.

That's 12 days and probably less in reality seeing as I ordered at a weekend and it was only approved and payment taken on the Monday.

Seems that the bottlenecks have cleared. I've got the WUXGA as well.

 

Well, if you take a look at the US order status thread a lot of ppl are getting delayed.

I had an order that I just cancelled that was due to ship this week yet was still in build only a couple of days ago (would have been delayed most likely).
