Just curious. AW reps say that a GPU backorder is the reason mine hasnt gone into production, been in phase 4 for 25 days.
-
-
I think you've broke MrDJ's record on how long you can be in phase 4.. unless it only for m15x..
-
Well Thundahawk has certainly created a record to be reckoned with...
-
I'm up to 30 days. Supposedly, my video card is on backorder and they'll receive it tomorrow.
Last week, they told me my case was on backorder.
Let's all place bets on what will be on backorder for me next. I'm guessing the little sticker on the back that says "Keep out of reach of children". -
Really? I ordered my m17x on May 5th, I think. And I am pretty sure some people have ordered it on the launch day, April 29th.
edit: And yes, I am still in phase 4. Everyone who ordered the m17x is still in phase 4. No one will get his hands on the m17x for another 2 weeks -
Yeah, give it a little bit of time. they "released" it, but the product wasn't really released...
Hope to see some reviews and pics soon though! -
Two weeks? Why?
-
They're still testing it and to make sure the m17x won't have what the m15x had when it was first launced. Plus, I called the CS today and they told me that they are still waiting for the chassis and display, which are in backorder.
-
Hello all. I've been reading these forums for a while and this is my first post.

Here is the email I received today:

Alienware"
I live in florida, so when it does ship I should get it very quickly. I will post pictures and a review once I do. -
Maybe they weren't lying about my stuff being on backorder.
-
Hmmm...if it's indeed in production, we should be seeing some machines shipping out within the next few days. exciting
-
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
So in theory Chaz should get his review machine sooner rather than later.
I'm thinking that they will want reviews on how "awsome" the m17x is from various sources, for advertising purposes alone...?
OB -
Still stuck in phase 4 here...35 days an counting...
-
Order status page for me is now reporting phase 6. I hope everyone else's starts to move along as well :\
-
-
So in less then a week we should see reviews, right?
-
Either way, definitely soon. This will be my first time ordering from Alienware, so I'm not sure generally how long the production phases take. Right now, it seems phases 1-4 have taken the longest. My order hit phase 5 yesterday and its only taken one day so far to get to phase 6. So if its a phase a day for production phases I'd guess I'll have mine early to mid week next week.
I'll update as my phase changes and once I get it I'll write a review on it, and I'll try to be as objectionable as possible. The computer I'm currently using is a 7 year old desktop made by HP, so the m17x even with a base configuration is a major upgrade for me, and I'll be pretty enthused to own it.
If anyone else has their m17x order go past phase 4, please post as well. -
Well, with a bit of luck, you might be among the first to review it.
Everyone wants to see where the m15x fits in the grand scheme of things... -
I have been in phase 4 since May 1st.. I ordered the machine on April 29th I'm trying to be patient but starting to get a little crazy I have called CS and they let me know things were on backorder and on June 6th I received an email stating
"Dear Mr. XXXXXXXX
I hope you are doing well.
Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to the Area-51 m17x and continued high demand, your notebook order is experiencing a delay. We expect your system to ship in approximately two weeks. We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience it may cause."
I just hope they build it right and everything goes well so I don't have to send it back
***update***
I just called CS and they informed me that they are waiting for the 8800m gtx which will be released on the 17th and the chassis which should be released on the 20th but at this point who knows... I guess we will see -
@Wags: I'm in the same boat... I also ordered on the 29th, I also just got the same email and the order status page has been in phase 1 up until the begining of this week when it flipped to phase 2. Even though I have received the full payment email from the billing group and CS indicated weeks ago that I was in phase 3. So at this point I am not sure who or what to believe.
-
@Wags: Same here. They don't seem to have anything. Why release the laptop on April 29th if you're only going to ship it at the end of June? I don't see the point.
-
Just got an e-mail from them. My video card is on backorder AGAIN and should come in June 17, and my screen is on backorder until June 20. I'm seriously considering just canceling my order and getting a Dell, I could have had it 4 weeks ago. I'm typically a pretty patient person but considering they've had my $5200 for this long, it's getting to be pretty annoying.
-
Wow, 5200 ?
Man, for that money , you could`ve had the xps 1730 or thesager 9262 and an ultraportable...
Seriousely, you pay premiums for long waits here...
No offence, but I don't understand it. -
Yeah, I'm going with the m15x because of size. I want a 15", and right now this one has the most power. If you're wanting a 17", I really don't see much (if any) advantage of the AW m17x over the Dell XPS 1730. If that were me, I'd be into the Dell. Especially since you can order it today, and they're projected ship date is a week later.
-
Well, my m17x just hit phase 9, and I got an email confirmation from Alienware, with a tracking number. However, fedex does not have it in the database as of this moment.
It bothers me though. My m17x is now shipped and people are still having some of their parts on backorder. But then, I did order a base configuration (only adding the lighting and a blu ray drive), so maybe that influenced the speed in which its gone through the phases?
Any thoughts? -
yep. Hear-tell that the higher end GPUs are hanging up the process.
-
Hm. Has anyone with a 8800 order passed phase 4 yet?
-
I don't think so. I have been in phase 4 for more than 40 days
-
lol, so people who ordered the less beastly machines and paid less money get theirs faster. Thats irony. Gotta love AW
-
-
Overheating?
-
That why I went for the Low end M17X lineazy89 So I will have it faster. Then Upgrade later.
where would be a good place to get a 320gb 16mb cache hard drive -
Well they got the chassis, hard drives, screens, and the graphics cards are on the way Friday; so guys what do you think will be back ordered next in the coming week? I say the CPUs
-
They are running out of parts to back order, you would figure at some point they have to start building the high end machines and not just the base configs. (given that the draw for the m17x is the higher end specs otherwise one might have bought an XPS 1730)
Yesterday the CS rep told me it was the chassis that were coming on friday, so once again a different story from a different rep. You would think that they would at least all agree on what they're telling their customers.
iElSayed has got CPU so i'll take .... guess theres not much left other then memory? -
AW just called in response to an email thread that I was having with CS in regards to my order status being in phase 2 on the web site but really in phase 3 when I call. They told me since I used the AW credit account that it will not show as phase 3 but go to phase 4 once it has entered production. (which she confirmed should enter production thurs-fri and ship by the 27th)
-
Any updates from anyone? I've been following this thread since it started, but I want to register and ask some questions, my first being has anyone's M17x (who ordered X9000's and 8800M's) gone into production? I ordered mine on Tuesday, and I'm currently on phase 4. I know I probably have a while to wait but I just want an update from someone who ordered a while ago.
-
Ordered mine on 5/30/2008, with the exact specs you have (see my sig), and the web is still showing Phase 2.
But at least yours is making progress. That might be good news for the rest of us power-junkies. -
Wow, that sucks, you should probably call them (if you ordered with a debit card that might have something to do with it).
I emailed customer service and asked if any components were on backorder, and they replied back without directly addressing whether anything was on backorder, but they did, however, say everything was on schedule for my order. We'll just have to see. I'm sure they have the GPU in stock since they are shipping tons of M15x's with 8800's. -
Any updates from M17x purchasers? Any news from customer service on when these machines should be put into production? I'm still on phase 4 haha
-
I am still in phase 4 and i think i will be staying there for another 10 years
-
When did you order yours?
-
May 5th...
-
That sucks
-
Been in Phase 4 for 3 weeks. Also GTX Sli and X9000.
-
Has anyone been notified of backordered parts or anything like that? There has to be a reason why nobody in the world (except Menneth) has gotten theirs.
-
I just did that whole "Live Chat" option on Alienware's website and spoke with one of their CS rep's. They said that they have been shipping out M17x's and that the only components on backorder are the ones listen on their configuration page (just a bunch of SmartBay HDD's) so it's strange how only one person on this entire forum (and seemingly in the country) has had their system go past phase 4. Interesting to see people who ordered in early May still waiting. It seems like there is nothing left to do but sit, cross our fingers, and wait.
-
-
As of last week i was told the ship date would be by the end of June which is next week. Only time will tell.
-
Well I would guess mine would be out sometime this week
Phase 8: (Production Phase 4 - Quality Control/Shipping Prep)
The system is undergoing the final stage of the Alienware 200-Point Quality Control Process. An Alienware Quality Inspector is in charge of inspecting your system from top to bottom for any obvious or latent defects. Our Inspectors are seasoned technicians/engineers and are very experienced in the art of perfection. Note: If the system does not pass any of our performance standards, the system may have to go back to an earlier production phase and it may slightly delay your order.
Just Crossing my fingers. -
