Idle is usually in the 39-43C range for all cores and during light use (e.g. multiple browser windows open) it goes to 45-47C. During gaming I saw it peak at 79C during a session of GTA IV. This is after applying MX-3 paste, my temps were 2-3C higher with AS 5. I don't remember what they were with stock paste but probably around the same as AS 5 or a bit higher.

    thanks for the info
btw my qx9300 temps on idle about 40-43, during light use (e.g. multiple browser windows open) it goes to 45-48C (these part is the same as urs). But during gaming my peak was 53 - and all this after applying MX-3. dunno why your peak is higher - we all know that 920 power consuption is much more than 9300 - but the cooling system is sstill efficient. but no doubts these temps - ~80 are ok for i7 920=)))

    Hi,

    thanks for the replys.
Mine is in idle between 50° and 65° C, during gaming or rendering my peak is around 85° C.

I think this is much to hot, what do you think?

    Thanks Best regards

Well as long as it doesn't go over 100C you should be fine. Once it goes over 100C You got some serious problems.

I would try to keep it under 90c. Anything over that Alienware or Dell think it to Hot.

    100° C

    Are you sure?
To my mind 80° C is very, very hot for a CPU.
Or are the i7 processors designed to run under such high temperatures?

    Best regards
    Rolf

100C is the max the I7 920XM can handle before it exploded itself.

Haha they would not explode what will happen is eather it would downclock it self or turn off the system to save it self from Destorying it self. I had a laptop that would not turn on the fans so it would hit 105c and shut off.

Ahh ok. I just did not want the guy to freak out. Last two system ran 100c shut of and my second alienware system 110c and shut down. No I never overclocked. Never stressed the system. Yes it was a HOT POCKET that can fry eggs.
