What are the real pros and cons from each systems.
    Help me on my purchase.

I've sent mine back to refresh, but I've read some topics and now I'm sort of confused on which one is better.

    Help me please.

ps: I loved the battery on the R1, will the R2 be such a poor choice for battery?

You trade the battery life for some big advantages (and maybe some big disadvantages)

Yeah, I need the computer right away, so I need advices to get the best choice I can right now.

Is there any other Alienware competitor available? Like Asus / Acer / Toshiba?

    Thanks

No one really knows about the R2 yet but here is my opinion on the R1. Due to so many negative threads on the net about the m17x r1 the resale and true value of the laptop has dropped through the floor. Dell allows for warranty transfer so buying used is imo the best bet right now. You can pick up an SLI 260m with bluray and 1200p screen for around 1700-1800 right now barely used. Thats wht I did and just did a fresh install with win 7 and A03. Took me about a full day to sort all the issues the laptop had and since then it has been fantastic.

If I was buyng new I would go R2 all the way once others had taken delivery and proven that all the issues have been sorted. If there are still issues then I would buy used once again. Paying 3k for hardware that needs sorting is lol worthy imo.

Well, after replacing 280s with 4870s the stuttering is gone and I see no reason why I should return/sell the perfect system and get another perfect system...
The R1 is already polished with drivers and tweaks, it has better battery life and same graphics. The advantage of having i5/i7 CPU isn't too convincing for me to switch. As for the RGB LED screen: I don't really know if it will be that much of an improvement. I'm happy with my screen (operate on 60-70% brightness indoors, still have enough reserves). My system is almost 6 months old and besides a GPU fan replacement and Nvidia to ATI switch, never had any problems with it.
I might upgrade it to R2/R3 given enough performance gain (40-50%).
Otherwise, you see another happy camper ;)

You might wanna consider Clevo, but they will offer a big refresh in March/April so your best bet is the R2. ASUS/ACER/Toshiba might offer cheaper solutions but those will have worse durability, performance and support (BIG IMHO :) )

Aikimox is right. As long as you stay away from NVIDIA GPU you don't have to worry too much. Im not too obsessed with i7 either. For me R1 and R2 each has its own advantage. R1: Battery life. That's what I WAS very impressed. R2: RGB display. Im picky with display and that's what I WILL be impressed :D

Edit: About Acer, Asus and Toshiba part, I second that :D

I would buy ASUS right now that is using the new 5800 series. no point getting the R2 alienware, I dont think it the performance is better than the r1, maybe slightly better, not worth it.....

the R1 is in good shape but not great. Generally speaking it's not a stable computer meaning it's capable of performance and is feature rich but isn't stable. Packing this much power in a laptop so far no desktop replacement has been perfect. I'm interested to see how the R2 will hold up as a machine you can leave on and game long hours with stability.

That said it's a good machine and you will find some seriously good deals on M17x R-1's right now. Find some with warranty coverage and you're gold. The M17xR1 is miles ahead of most of the other laptops out there and if you get one with Xfire it will be close to the performance of the R2 for gaming.

If you're on a limited budget look at the R1, otherwise if money is not an issue go R2 all the way.

R1 for Mobility and R2 for "Total Desktop Replacement". Kinda sucks that the R2 does not have Binary GFX :(

my r1 is rock solid for hours of gaming and I even have a mild CPU and gpu OC.
