Hello, I am a graphic/web designer who wants to own an Alienware M17x. I find that the Macs have no true advantage over PCs at this point in time, but PCs are considerably cheaper, run 3D software better and can play games (woohoo!).

The only thing that I'm worried about is the color quality of the RGB Led screen compared to a Macbook Pro. Macs are apparently well-known for their well-calibrated screens for print, and I would like to know if anyone has any experience or knowledge with the difference between the two, or if it's close enough that it really shouldn't matter at all.

    Anyone spare some knowledge? Thanks!

I've had both, an once calibrated, the M17x RGB LED is probably the best I've ever seen in a laptop. The only thing better probably is DC2 but thats not even out yet.

For professional print, you need a calibration tool like spyder pro to get the RGB LED working properly. Otherwise, Windows 7 calibration is good enough for the average person.

The RBG LED screen on the Alienware is superior to the standard LED screen on the macbook pro.

The Alienware will have a richer and truer color.

Nope. The only companies using RGBled screens are Sony and Dell. If Apple added a RGBled it would make the price jump alot

I feel if you want to get more for your money, then M17x...maybe even R2 with dual ati's.....especially if you have to quickly render Photoshop images. Otherwise you can go Macbook Pro, but it is underpowered by comparison.

LOL Apple uses an LED backlight LCD screen NOT an RGB backlight screen

for color calibration AW,Sony, Dell workstations and HP workstations are the way to go.

seconded here, especially if you are outputting to print or an imagesetter
