Well, after doing many things to try and fix my laptop, I have decided that it must be hardware related. I have lock ups, DPC problems, and FPS drops during games. It's gotten so bad, I can't even use firefox without having to leave my laptop for 5 mintues or restart. I've tried several threads on this forum to fix and nothing has worked. So, I'm going to contact dell and try and get a replacement/fix. What I would like to know is what is what should I be expecting them to do, would they go as far as just replacing it with a R2 model? I just want to hear what your experiences have been with getting M17x replacement or fixes so I get an idea of what I should push for.

have you tried a fresh install of OS, because when you call they will do remote access to find out whats going on

and used the latest drivers from the dell website? since the ones on the discs are old, also do you have A3 bios?
-

did you updated the bios to A3?

What I'm looking for is other experiences with dells support in problems with their M17x. I'm going to be calling dell soon and just wanted to see what dell has done for other people. -
well so far dell remplaced my gtx 280m for ATIs and remplaced the MOBO twice and one hard drive and the media panel, oh ya and the screen cause the tech scratched it.
all you have to do its CALL them they will back you up -
Concerning replacements and refunds, while its good to have other folks experiences, please keep in mind that this is handled on a case by case basis by Dell. What one person is able to obtain in terms of resolution is not going to be what the next receives.
Your best bet is to contact support, discuss the issue - mention previous calls and case#s if you can and then state exactly what will satisfy you. It is then the tech's responsibility to try to meet this level. They should be working with you and their supervisor during this whole process.
If you are not happy with the outcome, you can always escalate the issue via the Unresolved Issues link on the Dell main site. More info on this process can be found here:

Best of luck with the contact and remember to be politeBelieve me, it helps.

I said, frankly, I had to return the R-1 because of a million issues and I'm going to cancel my order. I said if I were offered a processor upgrade (which happens to be the 920xm because i have the 820qm) I would be willing to stick it out and deal with a system exchange rather than canceling and getting a refund. He spoke with his supervisor for about an hour, called me back and gave me my new order number for a m17x with identical specs except for having a 920xm instead of the 820qm. Basically I got a 600$ upgrade just for asking it. It really does depend on the representative you get and how sympathetic he's going to be in conveying your issues to his supervisor. If you get someone on your side, its a huge plus in winning a system exchange/upgrades.
