    Set up UPS pickup tomorrow.

No restocking fee, full credit being applied.

Thanks to all who tried to help. Just wasn't to my liking.

What did you tell them? Or did they just say no problem w/o asking questions?

Initially, when I first called I was transferred to 6 different depts, not kidding here. I was given a number to call if the call got disconnected... and then I got disconnected, I called the number and it wasn't even Dell/Alienware related.

I called back, pissed off and demanded to simply be put directly through to the returns dept, lol, only got 3 transfers this time.

Ended up South American call center (so much better than the other outsourcing) complained about the bsod and stupid dark screen, offer for refund or new machine. I went with full refund (no restock), and scheduled UPS pickup. Very quick and neat.

    Thanks!
I think I'm not going to get another PC at all.

I think I'm done with PC gaming period. I have suddenly realized I don't have the patience anymore to tinker with all that is needed to really finesse some power out of the newest toys. I think this was a good lesson for me.

$4100 to play games? I need to have my head examined.
Now I can go spend all that money on my GF!
That's a waste of money right there... but hey, that's a different forum, right?

$4100 on something guaranteed to stay with you. You could spend it on your gf and then she could just leave you so. :p

LOL, I'm serious here. No more PC gaming for me. Not building anymore desktops. I'm going to start a new hobby. Reading. Books don't need the newest drivers and proper voltage, do they? I'm going to investigate.

It happens. I know for me I don't needthis laptop, I just wanted it :)

The jury is still out for me though because I think some 4870's would do this system wonders (and an LED screen).

I've been a PC gamer my whole life, beats the hell out of consoles.
I've always immensely enjoyed building, tweaking my systems... like many of you here, enthusiasts, right?

But suddenly, I have this brand new $4100 system, and all the games I'm playing on it run, well, they run ok, nothing special and it hits me so hard that I paid so much money for something I'm not really into anymore.

I was so looking forward to this thing too, and *like that* I'm 100% over it.
Relieved really. WoW! I'm going to have all this extra time and money... No more $400 graphics cards, no more $65 games, MMO sub fees, no more staying up until 3 am running 20 different benchmarks that mean nothing, trying to squeeze a few more fps... more time tweaking than playing.

the short version of the post i was about to submit.
freaked out coz of same-ish specs as Languid and higher cost. will be my first rig/laptop. if i have the same experience, i won't go to books, i'll b**** and moan about AW/Dell and buy the Sager NP 9280.

hoping for the best, planning for the worst.

Congrats, I think you made the right decision. If you really been a gamer all your life I doubt you will stay away for good. Next time cap how much you spend on the system. There's no point in going overboard even if you can afford it.

If you don't like the M17x will like a 9280 even less...

You need to be prepared because u can simply get a bad QX9300 which can't go over 2.9GHZ (at least till we find a way to increase voltage) if u can't deal with that i recommend canceling your order.

lol I want the 280's just to say I got the 280's but really the 260's are the best bang for your buck but they are only about 5% better than the 9800M GTX right? how far are they from the 280's? I dont want to waste money but the only reason I want 280's are cuz I want the fastest notebook in the world... I wonder if I could eventually get it cheaper? Is it MXM 3.0? Also, in a desktop you can use a different graphics card as a dedicated physx card, Can you use the 9400m as a dedicated physx card with the dedicated graphics cards on?

Ugh how did you not get a restocking fee? I'm still battling it out with my credit card company and AW/Dell. They will get my system back probably sometime tomorrow but my previous credit card (that I paid with) has been canceled to avoid AW from attempting to credit a partial refund. I wonder who is going to win? CITI vs. AW? They simply just transferred my funds into another account and sent me another card, I just wonder how quickly CITI will push for my funds back. XD

the physx is built into the 280's

    they are MXM 3.0

    260's are 10-15% behind the 280's pretty much = to a 9800m gtx (OC'd)

yes about 5-10% better then the 9800m gtx but alot cheaper ;)

physx is built in a gtx 295 also but some still get a 9800 gt for physx... sweet so if i overclock 260's could i get performance equaling the 280's?

Yes you could get almost on par with the 280's. But then you can just overclock the 280's and still beat the 260's by the same amount :p

But the 260's in SLI are your best bet, with the 4870's coming out soon (sometime  ) they will offer better performance for a lesser price.

So if your going to order now get the 260's that way when the 4870's come you will still have some money to get those :D

Well when the cards do come out they WILL SPANK the 280's.

The Asus is giving it a run for its money with 280's in SLI

those are OC'd 4850's..... I'd hate to see DDR5 in those

I couldnt stop laughing when I read this thread.

    it was so random.

but in any case, I was thinking the same things when I got this notebook. Like, I could build onto my desktop and make it run any game at highest setting. But then I realized that most of my favorite games dont even require sweet grapics. Like Counter strike source. I travel a lot around hte world too, so now I can bring this thing where ever I go and play with my friends back home.

I guess that calls for "bros before hoes" ;x

maybe he'll change his sig on his next break from his books :p

my single reason for getting this laptop instead of assembling a desktop rig. not so much the 'around the world' part, more the 'travel a lot' out of the country part.

Same as me. I've already got a great desktop (see my sig) but I travel a LOT and I wanted something that I can take on my travels. It also makes LAN gaming with my friends a lot better, etc. etc. there are just so many advantages in a laptop.

Just to clarify. . . I wasn't suddenly frowning on gaming or saying to 'get a life' to those who do game. I'm not a hypocrite.
I love games, always will. The thing about reading books more was mostly a joke - I never learned to read :(

I just realized what I've kinda known for a while. For now, I'm going to take a little hiatus is all. The GF thing was just bitterness on my part, she was so happy when she learned I was returning the M17X, she told me I was insane for buying it, then she gets to smirk and tell me 'I was right' . . .

My point was simply this. $4100 is an awful lot to spend on a machine that I don't LOVE. If I had a spiritual experience when i opened that Alienware box, I would have kept it regardless of the cost...

I hope everyone here loves their purchase, it is a beautiful design, very well-built (just not the screen!)
All you folks are very friendly and helpful!
