Ok so here's the deal I have been playing on my m17x for couple weeks now, while playing Crysis at 1440x900 setting all to enthusiast my frame rates have been avg. 30.1... then i decided to overclock and i got my gpu's to 700/1100/1500mhz and my cpu to 2.44ghz and i ran 3d mark 06 and got that a score of 12967 (the picture was at 660/1060/1460)
Now the thing is when i disabled Sli in crisis i noticed a small if any difference. And in the nvidia performance panel the sli settings are set to nvidia recommended, and once clicked the in no setting for sli-enabled.
So what do you guys have in these settings? I simply expected higher performance.... Thank you Richard

switch over to an i7 R2 and you'll see huge FPS gains, this assumption is made on this article, http://www.pcworld.com/article/172436/handson_intel_core_i7_920xm_laptop_field_test.html.
I7, FTW. The FPS gains are close to +40 +50 and the quad core chip had SLI, while the i7 had a single and look at those numbers.... It's why I decided to not go with the R1 and instead go with an R2, even if I have to have ATI cards. -
lol how can i swich over without spending a load of cash?
-
Edit: that seems like a typical GTX 260m SLi 3dmark06 score. Link to other scores. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-260M-SLI.18909.0.html -
Well he was talking about increasing his score, and I just said the easiest way to do it. On a side note SLI isn't suppose to give you a HUGE improvement it just gives it to you on supported games. I don't currently know what the support level is for Crysis for having SLI, but I'd imagine it should be huge, so I'm not sure what the problem is. But the game seems to be playable HOw many FPS are you getting?
And I didn't say go with a 920xm $1000 CPU, that wasn't my point, my point was go to any i7, just try to get away from the QUad Core Core 2 DUo. -
But 3dmark06 is a terrible benchmark for what gaming performance will really be like. Get vantage and see what it scores. I need to find the thread that shows how cpus make a huge difference when the clocks are changed in 3dmark06 and gpus hardly make a difference when downclocked 25%. Hitting around 10k in Vantage would be good, since a single GTX 260m hits approximately 5k (I've done this with a Asus G51J GTX 260m i7-720qm).

Oh..... Make sure you have the latest Bios, I remember reading that the R1 recently had a Bios Update that made pretty significant improvement, that could help.

thanks guys i'm downloading vantage, i believe that i7 are not supported by my mobo, and i am running the latest bios

The biggest problem the M17x-R1s had was dpc latency. If you don't have that problem spending the huge amount of money for a new system would hardly be worth it.
If *This* program doesn't show red bars that system is fine. -
hey sharloc, your score for 3dmark 06 is normal. with my q9000 gtx260 sli, i only hit 12400. crysis warhead is running ok. i run it on 1920x1200p and get average of 25-30FPS in dx10. you can run it in DX9 for better performance. as for an i7, the i7 processors get the same FPS in crysis warhead as your q9000 at 2.4.
-
thanks however my score in 3dmark 06 is after overclocking and i bet your is stock

-
great information thx and would you know if i could put an i7 processor, i believe its not compatible...
-
No the M17x R1 will not support the i5 or i7 chips. Differnt pin count and differnt chipset.
M17x R1 Nividea
M17x R2 Intel -
if you are only using ur m17x to game, you don't need anything faster than your q9000. the qx9300 will not give you any better results for gaming for GPU dependent games. games like WOW will run faster with a qx9300, but the q9000 is more than enough for games today, and probably for the next 2 years. if you really want the best, sell it and buy an R2 when the 5870s come out.

where is it easiest to sell except the obvious (ebay) ? Thanks for all your help
