    Hi im looking to purchase either one of these Alienware laptops and am intereted in both a M15x and M17X that i have been offered. The specs are as follows (please note the are both UK machines)

    M17x (7 weeks old but Brand new and un-opened)

    PROCESSOR= IntelRCoreTM 2 Quad Q9000 (2.00GHz, 1066MHz FSB,6MB L2 Cache
    MEMORY= 4096MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM (2x2048)
    HARDDRIVE =160GB (7,200rpm) Free Fall Sensor Hard Drive
    GRAPHICS CARD= Single 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
    DVD+/-RW
    17-inch wide XGA+ 1440x900-Beyond HD (900p) Display
    plus 1 years warranty

    M15x (three months old)
    Processor : Intel i7 720QM(1.60Ghz, 6MB) Mobile CPU
    Display : 15.6in Wide Full HD (1920 x 1080) WLED
    Memory : 4096MB (2x2048) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
    Hard Drive : 500GB Serial ATA (7200RPM)
    Optical Drive : Slot Load Blu-Ray ROM Combo
    Graphics : 1 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX260M
    Plus 3 years of warranty.

    What i cant work out is which of these 2 would be the best one to get, im only going to be using either for gaming and web browsing, plus maybe the odd blu ray if i got the M15X. But i dont know which of these 2 has the best spec for gaming and will be the best value for my money. The M15X is nice as it has bigger hard drive and blu ray but im going to be using either for heavy gaming use and im very concerned with this throttleing issue on the M15X. Also are either of these going to pretty future proof as both are quite expensive, i know hardware changes very quickly but are these going to last me a good 2 or 3 years playing the latest games. I know this is a big post but any advice you guys can give me will be very appreciated

    M15x, no contest. Throttling issue has been solved on the M15x with a very easy work around (see my thread).

    /thread.

    Listen to this guy. He knows his stuff! :)

    And yeah, just by looking its plain that the M15x is a better machine (and I know NOTHING!).

    Yep, the only advantage of that M17x is the cross FireX option as SLI brings a lot of stuttering. Unless you are buying it just for games go with M15x -
    Better screen, better CPU...
    And, well, the battery life is actually better on M17x, but I doubt you will need it as ultra-portable replacement.

    His M17x has a single 260M lol. So we lose the ONLY advantage of M17x R1. Well, besides better chassis but who cares :D

    thx for all your reply's, i think im going to go for the M15x, but this one is going to cost about $250-$300 more than the M17x, is the difference in spec/performance going to be worth the extra?

    the m17x doesn't have SLI so there is no point for it. Sure it have a bigger screen and better build materials, but the m15x wins hands down in specs. i7 > quad.

    Btw the m17x is a pain to carry around, at about 5 cm thick and over 40 cm long.... its just not that portrable to be honest.

    Since the M17x has a single card it may not have audio stutter as Moo claims. And M15x is just a bit smaller than M17x as we can see in some pics (again, Moo's pics if I remember correctly) so the smaller size is just a slight advantage.

    The real advantages of his M15x is its screen and better/newer CPU. And those advantages worth the extra 200 bucks.

    So true lol. I have just noticed that with M15x he will have Bluray vs. DVD, 1200p vs 900p, 500GB vs 160GB :D

    Not to mention 3 months old vs 7 weeks old but unopened ;)
