Does anyone know if XP drivers are available somewhere for this machine?

Alienware says they don't offer XP drivers yet.

well, take a look in MyHive...

alternatively, you could check the part producers' websites for XP drivers.

Thanks, but what does this mean?

"My hive", is that a website? (I tried and failed.)
I guess you're reffering to Alienware's "hive" section-I tried this to no avail...

"Part producer": What does this mean?

    I know-you'll call me a "Macnoob"...(lol)

you could try emailing alienware tech support and asking them. i'm sure it's a yes or no answer.

    if yes, great,

if no, then they might have the drivers so u can install them. if they offer xp on the m15x, then i'm sure there are drivers that will possibly be available for the m17x.

yes, it's an area on the AW website where you can download drivers. go to your national AW website, then go to support and click "MyHive". you should find drivers for your ordered system there.

well, for example, if you're looking for an XP driver for the wireless card, go directly to the intel website and look there.

    No joy from Alienware.

Targetting individual component manufacturers does make sense.
However: Is this machine made by Arima?

Who makes the "hard to find" parts? Ex: Screen, keyboard, card reader.

I mean, especially the keyboard, is a terryfying 3rd party source proposition,
since it's the only backlight IBM-clone keyboard I know of.

P.S. While we're at it, would you happen to know who makes the rear screen lids for the M9750? This, because I own one and would love to change the childish "Batman" scheme for a plain and simple one. (For use at the office)

Internet searches on this matter lead mostly to a reseller of notebook parts, which uses at least 6 different company names: This company sells parts
for many notebooks, including those by AW, however no drivers are made
available for the M17x and neither are plain-covered rear screen lids (9750).
