I notice when I was looking on the dell site there only Raid and raid 1. My question is can this system support two differnt hard drives like a SSD 128gb hard drive and a 500gb hard drive.

yes it can, like i answered in your other post.

RAID combines those 2 hard drives into 1 essentially.

lol, just posted in your other post, but I'm running this setup. OS on a 7200RPM 500GB drive, and data storage on a 640GB 5400RPM

Would the problem be with Raid that if there two hard drives at differnt speeds like the 500gb running at 7200rpm and the 600gb running at 5400rpm. The speed of your combo hard drives is running at the slowest speed hd if it setup in a raid.

Note I do not like useing raids. Becuse if one fails they both do lol.

in RAID one they dont ;) RAID 0 they do

Also the speed of the raid will depend on your slowest HD

Exactly, which is why I won't do RAID, just keep them as seperate drives. Not sure I'd see much use in using RAID for my needs

Nope not at all. On my Inspiron it just reads as a second HDD, much like a USB external drive. The second HD is where I store all pics/music/movies and projects. The main drive is usually my faster drive so I install on the programs on it and the OS. Thats the same way I'm going to have my M17X when it arrives. I like to go for space. At the time when I bought drives for my Inspiron 1720, 320GB was the largest 7200RPM drive so I got that and then the 500GB for more storage. Now I'm going with a 500GB 7200RPM main drive as it's the largest and fastest, and a 640GB second drive as it's the largest. I'm more of a Capacity guy. One day though I'll drop the 500 and go SSD. So nope, no raid, just two drives.

EDD was 15 JAN 2010. I'm currently in Iraq. I ordered on Black friday so now I'm just playing the waiting game. Good part is shipping it out here I didn't have to pay tax and got the EPP discount, :) bad part is theres not tracking data :(

On the other hand I got my package with the 8GB 1333RAM, 640GB HDD, small toolkit, logitech preformance MX mouse and thermal paste today. It's sitting on my work desk as I type, teasing me. Got the QX9300 ordered yesterday and it should be here in a few weeks. Hopefully before the system arrives. I might cave and get an SSD for loading speed too though. Ahh decisions decisions...

I just got my M17x a week ago and i'm running a 128 SSD for the OS and then a 500GB Seagate.

I save the SSD for program that I feel are important. The 500 i split into 3 partitions, one for tempory file, one for program, and last for other things like my documents and desktop.
