I noticed last night that after Kilian feel asleep (my bad for not disabling that feature) and I woke her back up with a quick touch of her buttons, her touchpad didn't work. No external devices were plugged in, no mouse, no keyboard, not even an external drive.
So today, I tested it, put her to sleep, brought her back, and had exactly the same result. Expanded the testing to include hibernation, with the same result. I've updated the drivers with the latest and greatest from the support section of the alienware website, and still have the same result. The sleep isn't such an issue, but the same result with hibernation is going to irritate me, as that is a feature I use.
Given my track record with Alienware support (one good experience, three bad) I'm hoping someone here has some idea of what is going on.
Thank You.

Hi Speckane,
Unfortunately, sleep and hibernate have always been issues. I don't think I've ever had my M17X wake up successfully. My personal recommendation would be to enable stealth mode and have the computer "do nothing" on lid close. However, it isn't really a solution to the problem. You may want to try removing the toupad driver and letting vista/7 Install it for you. The only thing you'll lose is the scrolling ability.
Thanks,
Gabe -
Alright spec... lets see if we can figure this out - just for the record, I have no waking from sleep/hibernate issues since moving to a driver other than 179.85, 186.12.
Questions:
1. What video driver do you have installed?
2. What touchpad driver do you have installed?
3. Do you have the 9400 enabled or are you just running on the discretes?
4. Current OS? -
Here you go BatBoy (and thanks)
1. NVIDIA 7.15.11.7985 (Apr-2009)
2. Synaptics PS/2 Port TOuchPad 12.2.2.0 (Feb-2009)
3. I have not tested this on the 9400M as I'm almost always on outlet power, so I use the dual 260Ms
4. Windows Vista 64 Business.
I also have drivers for the Sidewinder X8 installed, which installed the Intellimouse software as well. It just now occured to me that might be an issue even though the mouse wasn't plugged in.

It's your Synaptics Install. See#2 below. Up to you if you want to upgrade your display driver. With 179.85 I had numerous 'wake to black screen issues'. With 186.82 they have vanished and are no longer an issue.
1. Update to display driver 186.82. You'll need to grab it from LV2Go.
NOTE: You will need to run the executable to extract it. Once the driver is extracted, look inside the directory for the 'Additional INFs' .zip archive. Extract this and copy/paste the 'nv_whql.inf' into the top level of the 186.82 directory. Once this is done, run the setup.exe app to install. This is required for the driver to recognize the hardware in the M17x. The default INF (nvfu.inf) does not support the M17x GPUs.
2. Update your Synaptics driver to v13.0.6.0 (released on 7/28/2009). Fixes:
Synaptics TouchPad driver 13.0.6.0(WHQL) will fix the following issues:
- Four Touchpad device show on Synaptics device settings.
- Touchpad malfunctioned after restarting computer or resuming from S3.
As you can see, they fixed a resume/restart bug.
Grab the updated touchpad driver here:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/input/R225468.exe
Let me know if you still are encountering issues. I believe once you update the Synaptics driver you should be good to go.
M17x goes to sleep and the touchpad doesn't wake up
