Looks like for their "premier" 17" model, they did away with the 8800GTX SLI and the M17 is now packing the 9800GT SLI.

so nothings changed. right.
-
arent the 8800M GTX and 9800 gt the exact same???????
-
the 8800M GTX is the best of the best of the 8th generation of GeForce cards. the 9800M GT is the not-quite-the-best of the 9th generation of GeForce cards.
though the performance is currently equal (more or less) there are some subtle changes made to the architecture of the GPU...
of course, it's nothing you'd notice. -

I guess the added heat load of the GTX is too much for the m17x, unless they somehow improve the fan speed...
Apparently the new Sager/Clevo was supposed to have the 9800GTX but they used the Gt in the end because of concerns over heat.
I think the m17x could take the extra heat as it runs nice and cool with the 8800GTX in Sli...

yes, and the price in the UK has gone up by £1000 so before it was starting from £13xx now it's starting from £2399 :O
-
The 17'' Clevos have the 9800GTX. The 15'' do not.
The 9800GT is identical (almost exactly) to the 8800GTX.
So, as someone said... nothing new! Hopefully they will be able to had the 9800m GTX soon (although, the performance increase to the 9800m GT is quite small). -
I received an e-mail from Alienware stating that my computer (which is in the build process) is being upgraded to this card. I originally ordered the 8800m GTX.
Woot i think? -
People over at the clevo forums opened up their m860tu to discover that the 9800 gt and the 8800m gtx are one in the same!
-
That's because every single 9800M GT is just a rebadged 8800M GTX. Exact same specs, kind of how the 8400M GS became the 9300M G.
As others have said the Alienware M17x remains identical. -
-
its a 1300$ upgrade on the AU site

i fail to see how the m17x can be a succesful product after the devestating price alteration and the fact that thier wont be any current gtx cards. sager all the way, if you want somthing like this i think.
-
here is that e-mail
-
there is less heat from dual 9800gt's
-
a few degrees centigrade, maybe. nothing you'd notice.

I've become rather disillusioned with Alienware. For a company to proclaim being state of the art gaming, they really need to stay ahead of the pack at all times with faster refreshes and, well, better pricing. I know Alienware pushes a type of 'mystique' that is Apple-esque, but it is far from it on many levels.
I'm not saying they are all smoke and mirrors, but their QC, Customer Service (sans a few) and failing to stay state of the art leaves much to be desired. I would detail my M-ALX saga, but, well, I want you all to be able to sleep at night instead of waking in a pool of chilled sweat.
Too bad my Titanium credit line will rot till eternity.
But at least Alienware really opened my eyes to the many competitors, their staying on the cutting edge (Sager, et al) and the price/performance many others offer.
This 7811FX still blows me away for how much it offers for such an attractive price. -
but, well, I want you all to be able to sleep at night instead of waking in a pool of chilled sweat.
LOL. Yikes...
And I know what you mean about the cutting edge, they really used to be fastest out there on a regular basis, and when something new would hit chances are you could hit alienware.com and see it there first. Wonder what happened...
M17x has 9800GT SLI
