For the same price I paid for my M9750 in January I could get basically the same specs on the m17x but with dual 8800's instead of the dual 8700s I have in the m9750. I'm pretty pissed off about that.

I agree. I think my M9750 will hold out fine till next year when these are half the price.

Why are u pissed, the M17X was announced before u bought the M9750, you could have waited, and yet u chose not to. New technology is always around the corner and it is getting cheaper too. It is the way of life in this sector, just be happy with what you have, its a great machine, perfect for what you were doing, and will be for the near future.

Also, by January you would have known a replacement was *somewhere* down the pipeline (the m17x was revealed in November)

Meh personally the M17x is too expensive. I got my M9750 for around $2500 with SLi 7950GTX. Sure it may be last generation, but you are going to pay around $1500 more for dual 8800GTX. I would say wait until the price drops down a bit. I think it should only be around $3500 for the "higher end". Actually that is what I want it to be :)

$3500 will be a while off -- high-end m15x laptops are about that much

I am curious as to what you paid. To get a similar config to my M9750 which cost me $2200 it would be over $4000 for the m17x.

I paid $4484 for the m9750 with the setup in my sig. Dual hard drives in Raid 1, SLI 8700s, 4GB ram, 3 year warranty, yada yada. I could get the same setup minus the ram plus dual 8800s for the same price I paid for the m9750

Sorry I'm on 500mg of caffeine (I have a lab, test, quiz tomorrow) so I miss a few things. By the way Tokay, why in the world did you pay so much, really doesn't make sense. Did you buy all of your stuff from alienware instead of upgrading yourself?

is it me or is the m17x just not as pretty as the m15x?
I mean its shape nothing about the colour, cos the black is wicked.
    it just looks , bloated.
now clevo's d901c, looks like a brick, but I dont know, I may be rambling a bit here :)

it just doesnt make me wanna click an ORDER button.
    not like the m15x did/

yes I am saying all this knowing far too well all the problems I had with AW but I am looking past that, and sparing my critique for the design.

All the stuff came from AW- I didn't technically pay for it, my company did. It was easier to convince them to buy it all at one time, preassembled than to buy the laptop then add the upgrades. Looking at the size of the m17x I'm starting to think it wasn't such a bad choice to get the m9750. It will do everything I need it to for the next 3 years until the warranty runs out.

    wow... it is beautiful...

i loved the look of the m9750 but this... this is also very very nice...

i did not like the fact that it's so thick but overall, it does look sweet...

cant wait to see the reviews.

grats to those who already placed orders.

    amazing...
