I'm on the phone on hold now with alienware tech support. Hopefully someone can give me some clues as to what wrong with my new M17x.

-All computer functions running incredibly slow.

-Touchpad buttons are not lighting up and not functioning

-Camera is not functioning on start up (no facial recognition).

    Any ideas?

*UPDATE* Problem solved. AC adapter and computer needed to be hard reset. This meant I had to take out the battery, remove the AC adapter, and hold down the power button on the M17x for 10 seconds. Anyone know anything about this? I don't understand why the adapter would govern the performance of the computer.. it performed slow while plugged in and while on battery.

Any response would be appreciated, but i'm just happy it's fixed now =)

Did you try a clean install?

That will usually clear up 99% of all new system problems....

I think it's coming to the point where I will have to do that.. Yesterday tech support made me do a system restore which only momentarily solved my issues.

Can you give me a very brief walkthrough on the correct way of doing a fresh install?

Put the OS disc in and boot from it. Follow the prompts (format hard disk, etc) to install.

Once that is done, install drivers, then apps.

Do I need to uninstall anything before I do the fresh install or just boot from cd and start from there?

Just make sure you copy any important data to a dvd/usb drive/etc.

No, you don't need to do anything but boot from the os dvd.

Just boot from the OS cd. It will wipe everything through the process when you have it format the hard drive.
