i've been having a few problems with my M17x and long story short today i called tech support and apparently the motherboard needs to be replaced but they say i have to send the computer to them and it will take about 5 weeks to be repaired.
I think i saw post of a few people here that got their M17x's motherboards replace and it was done at their house.
What should i do, just send them the computer or call/email someone else?
(im on the phone with the tech support right now)

    Thank you.

Check your warranty - if you paid for onsite repair, then onsite it is and you do not need to send your laptop to the repair depot. If you did not pay for onsite coverage, then you are stuck.

I have 2 yr In-home Service after remote diagnosis + Complete Care.
the tech guy says the in-home service is only for minor things....
Im on hold to speak with his supervisor now.
    Thanks BatBoy.

EDIT: even with the standard warranty you get in-home service with the M17x and the M15x. (maybe only in the US)

No problem. There is no reason why they cannot do this onsite. Just tell them "Onsite" means "Onsite" and not "Repair Depot". ;)

EDIT: If I'm not mistaken, Repair Depot was the base warranty @ time of launch. Why I mentioned it.

This is crap. Have the PC replaced. Simply tell them this is a PC used for work also and you have no other alternatives. They have no choice. I have never sent in a PC... Neither should you.

I agree....I would tell them in home service or replace it NOW! I would never stand for 5 weeks turn around. Call your credit card company and charge it back immediately and say they are not honoring the warranty. This will shake some heads and make things move around.

Well, after 2+ hours on the phone and talking with a supervisor they are sending the motherboard to a technician and he'll come to my office this Friday.

Thank you all for the advise.

Just today i replaced my mobo myself. The csr told me there would be no probs and if i didn't break anything i'd still b covered by warranty. It was pretty easy since so many screws are attached to the items they hold down.

It only took me 10 min on the phone to get them to send the mobo. But then again i was also complaining about the shoddy work done a few weeks ago that left a few tab broken on my laptop.

yes, make sure you watch him, sometimes, the techs mess things up and tell you to call customer service to get things fixed, as they need to leave.

My m17x One screw was stripped on the gpu and missing screws. Not sure how many screws are missing from the Motherboard becuse I never touch it.

I agree with Moo I wish dell will hire me or at least have me as one of there Techs in my area. To send someone out it 100 Miles. 50 here and 50 back to the city.

What bad is How hard is it to take a digital camra take pictures Just to look back and go ok that where this or that gose. Then put the screws in sections. Like Case screws then Gpu screws, Plaque screws.

Hello, i hope you don't mind me asking, what problems were you having in order for Dell to replace your Motherboard?? Do you know if maybe it is a new revision of the motherboard. Just looking for some ammunition before i call Dell..

    Cheers

I had a faulty blue-ray drive replaced on my M17x about 2 months ago, their tech did seem a bit clueless but he was really careful, it took him like 2 hours to finish.

    @rdalcroft
no idea if there a new revision of the motherboard, i doubt it.
The battery was not charging, i tried different batteries, different ac adapters, took the battery out press the power button 10-15 secs, took the coin battery out... pretty much everything i read here but i didn't fix it.

And i also have some audio skipping/stuttering but im guessing that is bios/software problem since so many people have reported it. (stutter on mp3s only, no problem while gaming or video playback)

My new motherboard should be at home now, if not coming tomorrow (no idea why it is taking so long :( )

I am installing it myself, as I am the only person I trust to work on my precious
