I am having major latency issues with my laptop to go along with my video problem. Could you please run the following program and post a screen shot here. Latency can causes your sound to mess up and if you use music software like I do, can cause pops and crackles. I just want to make sure that not all of these laptops have this issue.

    here is the program

here is what my machine looks like (yeah I know it's very bad)

I did this when I first got the M17x.

You need to start disabling hardware and run the test in between to find out what's causing the latency.

I don't know if this might serve as a piece of mind to you but, I ran that program although I don't have my m17x just yet, but I got some latencies too.

How accurate is the program itself? I've never had a problem with pops and crackles.. I'm currently using a Gateway P-7811 FX

    100% accurate.

You only notice pops when using professional sound programs like cubase, ableton, etc.

I may have to keep using my old laptop for when I use GuitarRig 3. My little old Sony VAIO stays in the green when you disable wifi. Oh well. :(

You tried disabling powermizer?, whats running in your system?.

Generally you can solve it with some optimization.

I disabled all but necessary hardware including both network connections blu tooth dvd drive acpi battery and ac 1394. I did everything but the powermizer.

Nothing is running on the system it's exactly the way it was from the factory. I got the computer on thursday. The only thing I have done was update the video driver and control panel.

After the tech fixes the video problem tomorrow I will do some more testing.

Question does Vista 32 have better latency than 64 cause my Sony Viao has Vista 32 on it and the latency is alot better. My desktop pc running XP doesn't move you can barely see the green bars on that.

The problem isn't devices but the drivers, powermizer always give u a lot of spikes so i highly recommend disabling it.

Well if it's exactly the way it was from factory thats the problem :p .

Your system came with mcafee? if yes uninstall it.

Any program can give you spikes in latency (even office do it because of a little app that come with it :p).

Both vista's sucks at DPC management and the problem is the drivers in M17x or any other application running not the OS (while with windows 7 your will get less spikes).

And desktops always have less problem with latency specially because it have less devices to give you problem :p .

Use this APP to check if theres any program using too much CPU cycles ;)

Disable your wifi in device manager

Update your graphic cards driver (old nvidia drivers give you spike specially when using aero)

    Disable aero

And a big problem can be intel Speedstep (it really kills your latency) so try removing the battery when in AC or try to run dpc latency checker in battery mode or try using something like prime95 and checking your clock in cpu-z to check if it's the problem.

PS: if someone using win 7 in M17x can run the dpc latency checker...
